Here are some things that have lessened my RLS over the years:
> Take early in the day, stop and/or lessen the dosage for any of these:
- Bee pollen
> No chocolate
(Horrible to say, but it always gives me RLS)
> No sugary desserts or caffeine after 3 PM
(I've switched to desserts at lunch...)
> No alcohol with dinner
(yep, that means wine also.....)
> Stretching the back of my legs.
Exercise early in the evening seems to help.
> Occasionally drinking rosemary tea with lemon and a VERY little honey or agave.
> Adding blackstrap molasses to my diet
(iron deficiency my contribute to RLS)
> If it's really bad, I take a natural sleep remedy. They usually contain valerian, camomile (or some combination) and maybe calcium and magnesium.

Making yourself shiver a couple of times has worked most of the time with me.
Began having mild RLS a year or so ago, but has become progressively more severe over the past six months.
Preventative vitamins such as magnesium and potassium have helped (I've also read iron, valerian root, and calcium can be beneficial, but can't vouch for them personally.)
However, if you are experiencing symptoms and need immediate relief I use controlled cramping, extreme stretching, and massage.
When I say 'controlled cramping', I mean contracting my feet in a way that causes a cramp, which is painful, but if you can flex your foot enough to moderate the severity of the cramp so it is tolerable for an extended period the relief after the cramping ends is great. I also do this for my calves.
'Extreme stretching' is sort of the opposite of my cramp technique. I'll stretch every muscle and tendon in my ankles and legs to whatever point I can stand. This is also painful at the time, but totally worth it if it means getting sleep.
Sometimes I'll also use a vibrating massager on the areas the RLS targets (usually outer ankles and up the side of my shin) before bed as a somewhat effective preventative measure.
I stumbeled onto something by accident. My wife had some dark chocklet chips for cookies this was 3 months ago one night I ate some of them I slept all night I couldn't beilive it.this cant be true I have tried every rhing else why not try it I haven't had any rls since. Candy doesn't work it has to be dark chips try it wont make them any worse it works for me
Learn to masturbate. I am not kidding. If you have an intense orgasm, one that makes your legs stiffen and toes curl, your problem will be over, for that night anyway. Doesn't cost anything, isn't bad for you, no side effects. Just try it.
My boyfriend has bad RLS & had to take a Parkinson's drug that drove him nuts. We found that if he takes a multi vitamin with zinc & magnesium for 2 weeks, his symptoms go away. Massage helps a ton too. If he sits it a chair for too long being cerebral, a massage helps him focus her nerves back onto his skin & muscles. He took some gummy vitamin cuz they tasted good, that didn't have magnesium in it, & the restless leg came back. Now herakes a multi, light regular exercise, adds a vitamin shake if he has symptoms, but pretty much he's cured. If he gets the figits, I scratch his back & he's good. I think it happens to cerebral people a lot. They need to get out of their head & get some sun, touch & feel their body/skin vs. just being a brain & nerves doesn't work. A good massage can cut through a bad cycle but the multivitamin is what really keeps it at bay.
I have been on this website many times usually during the night. I have found things that worked, some for as long as a year and I finally found the cause of restless leg syndrome and I am down to every other night suffering for about one hour with mild to moderate symptoms. You people have mercury poisoning. I had a filling removed and replaced by a biologic dentist who took precautions but it was not enough. I had severe insomnia, sleeping only two to three hours a night in addition to extreme increase in my RLS. It went all day long in both legs and sometimes my arm. It took about two-and-a-half weeks of this to put the onset with the mercury filling removal. After I realized this I went on a clay detox schedule. One tablespoon bentonite clay mixed in water four times a day. This is followed by two large glasses of water. This is very important-Do not take the clay without drinking lots of water afterward. You can find the clay on amazon or at a healthfood store. It must be food grade. By the end of three days my legs were not only back to what they had been before the filling removal but down to almost nothing. After over ten years of suffering I finally found the source. I went on mercury poisoning websites and sure enough it is listed that is causes RLS. Not only is my insomnia and RLS gone, almost, but my temp went from around 94 to 97.8. My thyroid problems were from mercury. Also amazing, after about five days I could not find my cheap dimestore reading glasses that I have not been able to be without for the past four or five years so I just tried to read without them and realized after about five minutes that I was reading!! I got my eyesight back. About two weeks and it is about back to perfect. I will never need those glasses again. My legs still give me trouble but I continue to detox the mercury. It did not all get in my body overnight and it will not get out overnight. I know the continued symptoms are because I am pulling more and more mercury out of my tissues. I have added chlorella and cilantro to my detox regimen. I will never get another vaccine of any kind. I will never eat high fructose corn syrup ever! I will never have another drop of mercury in my mouth. I have four fillings left to remove and I will wait until I am fully recovered from this acute mercury poisoning and then I will have the remaining four removed all at once. I hope this helps anyone. We are lied to so much and there is a reason for RLS and every disease out there. I know how devastating this horrible thing is and I wish you all the best.
Becoming a day sleeper has helped me. I happen to be lucky enough to work from home and I moved myself to basically a second shift schedule and that did help. I also have positive things to say about marijuana, indicas.

The only thing that has ever worked immediately for me, no medicines or other products needed, is arousal/orgasm. Whether you achieve that through sex or masturbation, well, that's up to you, but it has never failed me. Whatever works, right? It has saved me a lot of sleepless nights!
