As my dad always said when I had cramps in my legs.. 'Eat a banana!!'
I have suffered from RLS for 10 years. I have always self medicated. RLS was a big challenge for me but I have found something that really works for me. I squat next to my bed (keeping your heels off the ground) for about 5 to 10 minutes. Your legs will feel very tired like they have fallen asleep on you. But the RLS goes away long enough to go to sleep. I know this method sound crazy but give it a try.
I've had RLS for many years, and in approx. the last couple of years, I've noticed that whenever I get it, it seems that my legs are slightly cold. If I rub my shins, or any part of my legs that feels cold, and warm them up, the symptoms go right away.
I enquired of my Naturopath and he recommended IODORAL (high potency iodine/potassium Iodide supplement)12.5 mg. I started with two tablets a day and after one week I had no restless leg syndrome. I am now reducing the dosage to one a day or every other day before bed and I am still fine. I am so thankful to find this cure after a few years with this problem. I hope this will help other people to sleep peacefully and also their significant other.
Exercising has work very well for me. I got the idea of really ramping up my routine at movemylegs com which is a RLS specific forum
I know it sounds strange, but I stopped my RLS with a bar of soap placed under the sheets at the foot of the bed.
Jumping on a trampoline for as little as 10 seconds has stopped my RLS symptoms 100% of the time for the past 6 years!! There are little 'jogger' trampolines (called 'mini-tramps') for only about $40 new (or $15 used) - the great thing being that they can be used indoors regardless of the time or weather! There's a super small one, only 30' wide, available called 'The Bullet' (from JumpKing). I am happy to have a a 15' trampoline at my backdoor (walk from trailer hallway directly onto trampoline - wonderful), which cost only $180. I highly recommend this for RLS, poor circulation, depression, and delightful suntanning. Hope this helps someone!!
After 20 years of insomnia misery with RLS and after trying every supplement under the sun, I tried a cup of warm Malt Ovaltine before bed and it really works for me. I sometimes still wake up about 2 am and nip restlessness in the bud with another small snack, maybe 6 oz milk & 1 T peanut butter. This routine has truly changed my life. (I had always believed it was unhealthy to eat after dinner. Wrong!!)
I use apple cider vinegar. Just rub it on your legs. It works for me.
restless leg syndrome
According to the Restless Leg Syndrome Association and the results from brain tissues at Johns Hopkins Medical... this problem is from not enough B6 and iron... I had this problem after a surgry-- was given Neurontin and had balance problems... when I took the iron and B6 pills they sometimes give after a surgery... the problem disappeared..
I also find that magnesium and potassium help
