I'm 15 and ever since I was a little girl around the age of 3, I would toss myself literally out of bed to escape the bug like sensation. I have developed it all over my body, back, stomach, arms, legs, and even my neck and head. I have had blood tests done, everything was fine. I had been using Melatonin pills to put myself to sleep. Tonight is the worse night I have had and I believe it is from the stress of the first day of school starting in three hours. I slipped out of bed and drank Tonic Water which is supposed to help. I wrapped hot wash cloths on my legs and since my arm is broken and in a cast used them to wash my arms. It helped just long enough to get to sleep. Though my covers and all were destroyed from movement.
I have suffered with RLS since I was a little kid. I'm 26 now and I have found something that works most of the time for me several years ago. Sleep with a fan directly on your feet and legs. Most times when mine acts up this seems to help.
There is NO rhym or reason for RLS. I have had is for about 30 yrs and suffered terribly. About 10 yrs ago I started seekng treatment. anyting to help me.....SLEEP soundly. I have been to numerous nuerologists and RLS specialist....MIRAPEX is the only thing that helps me and has been very successful. However, NO caffeine, alocohol and smoking Can help as well. I still do all three LOL....and suffer some nights. My worst nights are a change in the weather. Rain, Snow, Hot to Cold, etc. Exercise makes it worse for me. Last night was one the worst nights I had in a Very long time. I had some wine, a smoked and its raining like crazy ...........I know in the past couple yrs have developed it in my arms as well. So between my legs and my left arms i wanted to to die. The creepy crawly unable to stay still shaking kept me awake all night and I took probably 20 Mirapex in effort for some sleep. Didnt work so well. I have been through every NEUROLOGICAL test, blood work...you name it and everything was FINE. you just have to cope, stay away from triggers like alcohol caffeine sugar and smoking....get some Mirapex and SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have suffered from RLS for many years. It has affected my arms, legs, upper back and feet. I was introduced to Melaleuca about 5 years ago and it has been a blessing for me. I take the Vitality 6 both morning and night, Replenex 3x's a day, and Provex-plus 3x's a day. I do not drink caffeine anymore and started to drink Herbel Tea before bedtime from Melaleuca. There is also a cream called Pain-a-trate that I rub on my legs, arms, and feet at night. These are products I couldn't live without.
I've found that the Bach Flower Remedy Vervain really works for me. Take a few drops in water when the feelings start and mine usually goes away within minutes...brilliant!
After suffering too many sleepless nights of rls I decided I would find a remedy. Thinking that it felt kind of like heat, I figured I should find something that draws heat out. So I found this coconut lime spray that we use in the summer for sunburns and it was like instant relief. I will repeat:
COCONUT LIME, AFTER SUN SPRAY. by the life brand.
I actually had a tweaked neck from some serious MMA training. And my RLS hit me like a ton of bricks!! I went to a Chiro and Accupunture and it worked wonders!
Before that, NO meds worked but Tramadol. All other meds they prescribed me didnt do anything for me.
So i just stopped ALL meds. Everytime i was woken up by it, id bang out 50 squats and jump straight to bed and id be out for the night.
This was a few months ago and ive been good so far! :) I mean every now and then id feel the sensation come.. and IGNORING it really helps, but if i cant, i usually take 2 tramadols and it goes away.

I have been so worried about a plane trip for 9 hours coming up, the thought of my legs driving me insane in such a confined space, so i have been trying everything other than traditional medication, as i already have low blood pressure and 1 of the side effcts of the meds available is that it lowers bp. the best relief i have had is from odourless heat pads, they are amazing. They take about half an hour to work but the relief is 100% and they work for 8 hours. I am also skeptically seeing a chiro and apparently my pelvis is out of alignment, so he adjusted it, that was 2 days ago and to my surprise my rls has disappeared, which is very unusual for me as i rarely have a night rls free. would love to hear of other people who have taken the chiropractic path to hear of their results. This condition can be so life disrupting with regards to sleep deprivation, travel,and general wellbeing, it is a shame there is not much information available, nor is it well known, yet so common across all ages.
