388 Home Remedies for Restless Leg Syndrome

I have to agree with a previous submission, orgasm is by far one of the best treatments for restless legs. Odd but true. It works on the same principle as most medications for RLS. It releases all sorts of happy chemical into the brain. Although remedy if you can't achieve orgasm for what ever reason (asking for help is always a favorite for my husband) a hot bath with Epsom salts (enough to make the water salty). The water also has to be as hot as I can stand it. This works to make the muscles fell better and stimulates the nerves just like exercise for RLS does.
It is important to note that a lot of RLS is drug induced. Antihistamines and anti-emetics can cause serious RLS. If you can avoid them. Phentagren (sp)does it to me every time. So does that sleeping and antihistamine ingredient that begins with a D. Another thing that works for me is an extremely strong massage of the areas that are a problem.
I am interested if anyone else has RLS that starts in the sacral plexis of the lower back right above the behind. I can feel it start there and sometimes move down into my legs. Other times it starts in the knees. Does anyone else have this? I very rarely get it in my thighs.

Having a Berocca at dinner time or half an hour before bed has been helping me. If I can feel it is going to be a particularly bad night a cup of peppermint tea and a shower before bed take a lot of tension out of my muscles.

Mirapex is the only RX that seems to work for me. I wish there were more awareness for this diorder. I have been fighting with violent leg episodes for many years now.

Dr. ordered: ROPINROLE 2MG 1 tablet 3x daily! After 20 years of 'home remedies' the only true relief is DOPAMINE!!!

Hylands Restful Legs-3 pills under the tongue- I took that plus 2 Ibeprophen,,plus hubby rubbed some ointment on legs and bottoms of feet, wore socks to bed, plus 800 mg of magnesium, plus 6 tall glasses of water,2 glasses of Gatorade, one vitamin, all to take an afternoon nap-after ending up at the ER the night before.ok,legs were not twitching at all when I fell asleep, and very little twitching upon awaking from nap.Right now 3 hrs later, its very minimal. What happened last night-I never want a repeat of. At 10:30 p.m., full half body of cramp starting from around all my waist and travelling all down both legs-severe extreme pain.20 min. to calm it down, then make it downstairs, downing more milk,a banana, and a mag. tablet. After it stopped I thought it might be ok to go back to bed, another episode at 1 a.m. running down the left leg. Then hubby took me to E.R. Blood tests came back-thyroid ok,my fluids were ok,he didnt know except maybe see my regular doc and a Neurologist. The twitching/funny leg feelings, small cramps has been going on steady since entering menepause 3 yrs ago, steadily getting worse. Immediately starting menepause I had alot of weight gain too.Now I know a regular doc isnt going to do anything for me. He did give me 2 pills of Lorazopan {Attavan} if needed.I wont take them unless I really need to,as my daughter told me how that will go.I feel as if I'm on the right track though. I will do another dose of Hylands Restful Legs under the tongue before bed,and massage the ointment again.Next I am getting a bottle of Tumeric tomorrow. We had just had a round of Chinese take out-and I'm sure a good dose of MSG probaly had pushed me over the edge. Now I will be more careful about food.I do know Turmeric works for Gout,as I had my brother take it,and it worked for him with about 1 yr of taking it. Gout is in the arthritis family,it is also inflammation.Today he is still going strong but will go back to taking it if he gets a flare up he says. Also he has stopped drinking, and been on the wagon for over a year. So,yes I would look at getting the inflammation part under control.I'm assuming you are doing Ibeprophen also,or similiar.

Have had RLS for many years, stumbled upon Trigger Point Therapy and it really works for me. Takes a bit sometimes to find the trigger point causing all the twitching, but I can usually find it and can rest at night. There is a lot online and there are a couple of good books on it as well. It is knots in the muscles and massaging those knots out so they don't affect the nerves. The knots can be painful but it is worth a temporary discomfort in order to be able to sleep.

Rested Legs is a supplement. It works pretty good.

When you're restless leg syndrome starts up real bad Get up and do as many squats as you can It will give you a window of about 30 minutes to fall back to sleep

I have suffered from RLS for nearly 20 years. The best remedy I've found, and this is not meant to be glib, shallow or reactionary, is to have an orgasm. Seriously. I have a wonderful wife who has seen this to be true and obliges when she can, however during the week this is difficult, she has to be up early for work. When my RLS is really bad he doesn't mind going downstairs and using internet porn to achieve the desired goal. It may not work for all, but if you haven't tried this, i suggest it could be a revealation for some.

Vicks vapour rub really does work for restless legs and feet, rub plenty on, and wear a pair of socks. amazing
