Believe it or not ice cream works for tooth pain. I have alot of bad teeth in my mouth and everytime one tooth stop hurting another one starts to hurt. After taken pain medicine with no relief I got desperate and thought if maybe I eat some ice cream it would take my mind off the pain. Well it worked! After eating 8oz cup of Edy's cookies and cream ice cream the pain was gone (I let the ice cream kind of melt at the top of my mouth and I think the coldness at the top of your mouth is what works and takes the pain away). I thought the first time was maybe a coincidence so the next time the toothache return I tried it again and again and it worked each time. This is not to replace a dentist just a way to provide relief when u are in terrible pain. Please post and let me know if it works for you.

So i have been awake for hours trying things for my broken tooth. at least 1/4 of my tooth is missing which leaves the nerve exposed. My pain I feel right now is a 9. I read some things about vanilla extract and putting that directly on the tooth, and I also read some things about cloves. So I took both to make this remedy. I used ground cloves and vanilla extract to make a paste and applied that paste to my achey gums. Its not 100% better but the 9 went to a bearable 3-4

Apart from the normal pain relief, I find that sucking in the affected area does give some relief. I am frightened to go to the dentist, because I know I will be up for thousands.

I just used old grandad 100 proof and sprinkled garlic powder in the shot glass, with a cotton ball I dipped into then place in my mouth on the tooth. Wow, no more pain took seconds. God I'm relieved :)

I was sick of taking too many Advil, so I came to this site to see what might do the trick for me.
First night of excruciating pain I tried warm water and garlic salt powder, seemed to help somewhat and was able to sleep.
Pain returned next day. :(
So several times I have brushed my teeth with Crest Pro Health for sensitive teeth, I have a spray bottle of peroxide that I spray directly on the infected tooth.
I felt better, trying garlic rinse again however I smoked and drank coffee-bad idea. Pain returned.
I haven't eaten today. Was too afraid too.
I tried oil pulling, this time is the third time I tried it. Google oil pulling and see what people said, seemed like a natural cure all. Not sure if it is the Advil or oil but for an hour or so the pain subsided. Brushed teeth again, I use the sensitive toothpaste, peroxide spray and then rinse mouth with blue mint Listerine, focusing on the affected area. Tried oil pulling again, longer this time, some relief. Rinsed mouth with warm water. Pain returns. Third time tonight I decided to try something else, I pulled out the powdered organic cinnamon, made a rinse with a bit of warm water and extra Virgin olive oil. I'm letting this stay in my mouth as long as possible, will report my results later. No pain at the current moment and the oil is soothing, the cinnamon isn't a bad taste either.
I cannot afford to go to the ER or doctor at this time so I want to try affordable holistic approaches. I would think the infection is causing the pain and if I can get rid of the infection, then hopefully this will work.
Brush your teeth with sensitive toothpaste. It does give small relief for a small time but if you have a toothache any time that is painless is so wonderful.
Try olive oil mouth evinces, it seems to help somewhat. Mix garlic powder (salt) with warm water and let it soak in your mouth. I do not believe the holistic approach is bad, it is certainly cheap for me to use products in my own home for some relief so I can at least sleep.
Going to try the oil pulling more often to see if it is really helpful, hoping adding cinnamon may help in some way.
Good luck everyone! Stay away from acidic drinks and smoking. I smoke and it aggrevated the pain tenfold.

I read every last page on here, and around 4 AM couldn't stand the pain, decided to try everything I could find in the house. All I had was sea salt and generic powdered garlic salt. I had used peroxide straight on affected back molar, relief for maybe a minute, if that. I brushed, used antiseptic mouth wash, and after a while Advil didn't even work.
What I did helped ease the pain tremendously. I mixed garlic salt powder with a little salt in very warm water, and it was not very diluted, really gritty actually. I kept the solution in my mouth and swished it around for about five minutes total. It did ease the pain enough to where I could actually go to sleep, I was very very happy! It's about 7 hours later now, I can feel the pain slowly returning but I will once again try this concoction, I like that it is natural. I will most likely try the vanilla or other natural remedies I saw on this site and hope for the best-report back my findings. I feel for anyone with a toothache, it is horrible! My top tooth (molar) is cracked and my bottom molar was bad about ten years ago, went to dentist then for relief and was supposed to have a root canal (never did) and after all this time it is starting to hurt (unless it has something to do with the top tooth). I have no dental insurance and I cannot afford to go to a dentist.
Thanks to all of you for posting your remedies, I never would have thought to use anything natural but it was so helpful! THANK YOU all!
