This is Saturday the 4th day after I had my 2 right wisdom teeth pulled out (Tuesday). The pain was so excruciating and unbearable despite the prescription of Norco 5-325 by the dentist. Since Tuesday I was using a pill every 2 hours and even this wasn't working. In addition I took Ibuprofen 800 mg a pill every 3 hours and this combo gave me some relief for about 1 hour but after that it was just horrible. As I was searching for remedies I came across this website and after reading I went straight to Walgreens and bought the Eugenol 85% kit from the oral care section. I used it as described to clean the cavities and the pain is now gone!!!! Please share with those with dry socket issues as the conventional pain killers are just a joke!
Here it is 3 o'clock in the morning on a saturday night, i had a tooth extraction 5 days ago and i know i have a dry socket. Ive had one before so when the burning stinging pain along with the ear and jaw pain started i just knew i had one. since it is so late at night im debating on whether to go and get something for it. the home remedy im doing while im debating is taking a piece of gauze dipping it in olive oil ( the only oil i have on hand) and soaking it on the dry socket. It is actually helping. in between the oil gauze treatment, i took some cold teabags and let them sit on the sore area, big big relief. its still annoying but its tolerable i can make it till morning. just thought id let yall know, just a quick fix in a pinch.
Red Cross OralPain Relief Kit and Tylenol. Worked very well
Thought clove oil was some crazy whitch doctor remedy .but a little drop of clove oil using a Q tip to the hole and finally no panadol or nurofen required .yaahoo
I have been on a Google quest since getting two dry sockets. Even after packing with medicated (eugenol) gauze and upping my pain meds, I was still in nearly constant terrible pain. The best remedy I have found is definitely Orajel Severe Triple Medicated. Combined with frequent warm salt water rinses (other rinses only exacerbated my agony) and hot showers, I was able to mitigate my pain until my next DDS visit.
P.S. I tried the Red Cross kit for a day or two but I couldn't justify the discomfort, messiness, and burning sensation for the short term relief it provided.
The red cross toothache kit works wonders!!! I swear by it. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago and ended up with dry sockets over the weekend, the clove oil is nasty but it helps take the pain away. I was able to sleep through the night also.
Had dry socket after tooth removal. Read posts here and bought Red Cross Kit. It burns for a minute or so but pain relief is very long lasting AND complete. Considered causing bleeding but feared cutting too deep or causing infection. Instead packed socket with coconut oil and covered in gauze. After two days I have noticed the hole is starting to shut. Took ibuprofen in doses of 800mg every 4-6hrs to fight inflammation. The swelling is almost completely gone in my jaw.

Do this to AVOID dry socket: Do not drink thru a straw for 3-4 days; Do NOT rinse first 24 hrs after tooth extraction rinse gently with warm salt water after eating anything. I thank this website for saving my sanity as 36 hrs after removal of a tooth and bone graft the collagen packing came oozing out thru the stitches due to extreme swelling. My dentist said no problem and said nothing about a dry socket. Pain continued to radiate to my ear and was excruciating. Got tired of trying to function on pain meds and tried the clove oil/Eugenol - put some on Q-Tip in Walgreens parking lot at lunchtime and 10-15 minutes later the throbbing pain was gone! A miracle! Tastes bad but just wad up piece of paper towel and shove under tongue and cheek to catch salvia while you hols the Q-Tip in the socket for a minute. I didn't have to take any more pain killers and I only have to reapply in morning.
Hi everyone, its been 10 days my Molar tooth pulled out.First bleeding didn't stop for 2 days then for another 2 days was still tasting the blood in my mouth. After that I have red and little white skin beside the socket. Dentist gave me 2 types of antibiotics, but is not working. Its tenth day today, it hurts like burned skin. Can't eat and talk properly. Yesterday went back to dentist, he said rub that red and white skin with brush, then i'll be better.if it does feel better then come on Monday he'll send me to specialist. There's no way I'm rubbing a tooth brush on it.
I'm so scared don't know what to do.I think its infection but there's no swelling or any pain on the side.
