Backstory is i needed a root canal and couldnt afford it at the time. That was a few years ago. The medicated filling they put in is long gone. At first the pain was tolerable, i have a pretty high tolerance, but now i cant even sleep.I am pregnant now so my options until I can get to a dentist to have it pulled are slim. I spent the last hour reading all sorts of remedies and settled on this. I put some white lightning (moonshine) on a qtip and held it on the exposed area. Then I did the same with some hydrocodone cough syrup that I had left from a bad sinus infection. The pain is not completely gone but is definitely more tolerable. I used qtip because I wanted to ingest as little as possible but it would probably work better if you took a swig and swished it around the tooth

So I was having extreme almost unbearable pain from an exposed nerve in my back molar. I tried every home remedy I could find but what I found to work the best, if only to relieve the pain momentarily, was the oral anesthetic spray you use for sore throats. Seriously, after I sprayed the area that was bothering me I got instant relief! I hope this helps. It sure helped me.

I had a tooth with a deep hole and the filling fell out. The nerve was exposed so i could not sleep that night,my face got swollen and the pain was a 10. The following night i used some salt and pepper with a little bit of warm water to rinse that tooth first. Then i cut a little piece of pain killer pill enough to cover the hole and moisten it a little then gently put it inside the tooth. While its melling i push it down with my finger to seal the hole well. I then cover the rest of the hole with a little piece of cotton and took the rest of the pill orally. After about 20 minutes the pain went from 10 to 0 for about 7 hours. I slept like a baby.

I don't think I can say this enough, THANK YOU! I don't think you understand but this seriously saved my sanity. And I have 4 kids! As soon as I found this site and read these posts I went to Walmart at 5am to find Clove Oil, Sensodyne, and Dentex. Found the Dentex and Sensodyne but no Clove Oil. Applied the Sensodyne, INSTANT RELIEF! Maybe it is the nature of my exposed nerve, but this literally eased the pain 100%. As soon as I was able to handle the Dentex I applied it to the affected area and Viola! No more excruciating pain! I have to say that there is still a mild ache, which is probably due to inflammation and irritation to the affected are. I'm sure this will pass but for the moment, I can think, sleep, eat, smile... all of the things that have been missing from my life for the last 72 hours.

ok try at your own risk the next 20 minutes of your life are going to suck but I put a small amount of powdered garlic dried tarragon leaves a pinch of sea salt ground cloves in a mortar and pestle grounded up and I did a small amount of ambesol in two drops of pure clove oil I got this gritty paste and jammed it right on top of the nerve in my back molar I then spent the next 10 15 minutes with my hands interlocked on my head pacing back and forth breathing slowly through my nose if you try this this will be a very very painful part do not hold your breath do not take big gulps of air through your mouth don't bend over into a fetal position all these things will actually make it worse I was pressing my hands to my head to try to do help the headache that instantly said on his breathing slowly through my nose as to not have the cold air passing through piss off the nerve anymore than it already once the pain slowly died down I rinse my mouth out with warm water do not use hot or cold water it will hurt and the pain has subsided down to maybe a .5 I have done this a couple times now whenever the pain gets too much for the ibuprofen day take away and it usually last at least half the day before it needs to be done again but for those of you out there that have the same problem as me you know half the days a freaking lifetime compared with that pain good luck and I hope this works for you as well as it as it has for me

CHAPSTICK/LIP BALM IDEA
Although I liked the logic of remedies found here to cover an exposed tooth nerve with wax or beeswax, there were no orthodontic/braces' wax, beeswax or even candles to be had in my home on a stormy Monday 3am morning.

So I sacrificed a tube of chapstick deciding it would likely be safe to ingest & perhaps wax-y enough to provide relief.

BINGO! After using my finger to smear gobs of the waxy lip balm over my bad upper molar (fr which a filling had disintegrated over the past week), my pain ratcheted down to a 4/5 outta 10. If the gobs run out before I sleep, I plan to pop the remaining chapstick fr its tube & simply bite my bad molar down on the stick of lip balm.

This temporary solution is at least giving that Tylenol PM I took hours ago a chance to work so I can rest a while until I can buy orthodontic wax when pharmacies open.
