I've had terrible teeth for a while, so I've learned quite a few tips and tricks, so I'm just going to list them all for you.

• Vicodin for pain, ibuprofen for swelling. I took half a Vicodin and 2 ibuprofen and it worked like a charm.

• OTC Temporary filling, costs under $5 and lasts forever. I use when I have a cavity is getting too close to the nerve and I need something to block it from the air.

• Swish salt water over bad tooth

• Lay the side of your face that has the hurting tooth on a heating pad

• This ones a little weird, not sure how I discovered it, but prop your head up on your hand but instead of having your hand near your jaw, place the heel of your hand on the ear on the side that's hurting and lean your head on it to apply pressure. I'm not sure if I described this well, but for some reason doing this takes my pain from a 7-9 to a very dull throbbing pain, which I'd take any day over a 7-9.

• This sounds counteractive but, swishing soda over the tooth always makes the pain stop almost immediately.

• Cold or warm water, sometimes one works and the other doesn't.

• And my last one is just taking extra care of the tooth until you can get yourself in to the dentist!

I feel your pain and I hope some of these help!

Dr. MOM with shitty teeth!

I have very bad teeth..no dental insurance amongst other things...ive been struggling with this for years. the pain brings you to your breaking point, i think it could litterly drive a person crazy..this is what i do to make it stop...first invest in a electric tooth brush and sensitive toothpaste..brush your teeth reaaly good front back if you have broken teeth get up in there with the tooth brush let it spin to get out all the gunk..after rinse with warm water as well as brush with warm water.if the toothpaste hurts your teeth more than just put baking soda in a cup dip your brush in it and brush well especially the area that hurts..then put peroxide and brush the area and spit. after thak SEA SALT NOT TABLE SALT, mix with warm water make sure you have a good amount in there, swish side to side, back and fourth paying as much attention to the area as possible. do it a few times then rinse mouth with just water..take 2 alieve...this is not a cure but it should help the pain ALOT if not take it away...bottom line our teeth suck!!and at some point we'll all have to pop a valium and see a dentist..but til then try this..hope it helped some of you..oh and stop touching the area with your tounge or creating sucktion with your cheeck it makes the pain worse!!!

The crushed garlic paste worked for me. I just applied a dab on the broken tooth for a few minutes and the pain started to go away. Read that the garlic can damage the nerve, I rinsed it out with water, swished around some Listerine, and now I'm 95% pain free. The tooth had been fine until I had pizza last night, that may have added peppers or whatever. I never thought I could find solutions on the net. I'm now a believer.

My toothpain was horrible after some kind of dental work. For three weeks I suffered off and on. Went to the dentist and they found nothing. Told me to go to Kaiser for trigeminal neuralgia.
Shooting, stabbing electrical pains all over left side of face. Cold, breathing, triggered the pain all way to nose, eyes, head, jaw awful.
Anyways during this whole time I was able to tide over the pain with clove oils, pepperment essential oils, marjoram, rosemary oil etc. And Ibuprofen. I tried salt wash and that killed like crazy.
Anyways, finally had to go to er. And was given morphine and perocet which didn;t touch it. Finally toradol was the only thing that touched it. Went to emergency dentist who said the last filling done by dentist-the bite was wrong. did some drilling and tap tap tap on that paper and gave me a mouth guard. Told to take indomethacin 3 times a day. it is helping

This may hurt at first. But after a bit it will start to help with the pain. I am super low income. So I have to save for months to be able to afford a dentist. I have had bad teeth for a few years now. Each time I have one taken out, another happens. They are all molars. Right now I have three molars that need a dentist. Last tooth extraction, broke the teeth next to it. So I now have more issues. Last time I had four abscesses in my mouth. This time I have one going through my outside cheek. Anyway, here are a few things that work well.

Firstly NEVER USE ORJEL. This may take the pain away. But in the long run it is going to cause nerve damage. After a few days of using it on a tooth, the tooth will start to hurt even when you use it. After a bit more time, hurt more when you use it.

For an infected tooth:

Put toothpaste ON the infected tooth. The cooling mint will ease the pain. As well it will kill infection. Brush your teeth, and use the brush to get the paste inside the hurt tooth. Also you can use toothpaste to temp paste a crown that has come off.

RAW garlic. Cut raw garlic up and smash it. This will hurt to the end of the world and back sometimes. If you have an abscess, try to hold it on the gums, as long as you can. Dried powder does not help. All of the oils are taken out of the Garlic. If you can, chew the garlic as long as you can. Hold it in the infected SIDE of the mouth. As long as you can. After that put a few slivers in side the tooth if you can, where it is slit open.

DO NOT USE WARM SALT WATER.
Bacteria loves the heat. So mix your salt water at warm temp. Then allow it to cool down. Room temp is better. Salt water makes the pain go away. But its not that it is warm. You can use normal water to wash your mouth out with, and it will make it feel better. but any warm water will in the end, help the bacteria. it may take a few hours for you to realize. Or even days. Rinsing at first is amazing. But the pain worsens each time a little.

Mouth wash. You can use mouthwash instead of salt water.

Take a cocktail. This is one of the only ways, i know of to get OTC pain meds to work for an infected tooth ache. But to me, it has to be done in this way. Toothaches are not really helped by meds. Unless you do it this way. And there is no harm or risk in making a cocktail.

1.5 dose of tyonall
1.5 dose of ibuprofen
.5 does of asprin.

The pain meds do not help a tooth ache much at all, unless you get your blood flowing. So take these meds, get up and walk around. Have a walk down the street. Get the blood flowing well. Do not lay down however. Laying down is not going to help much.

But whatever you do, do not do what I did a few moments ago. I pulled my own tooth in the bathroom. I knew it was risky. But I did it right and got the entire tooth. I have seen on sites where people suggest this. And while I will do it myself, I have a high pain tollerance. I also know that I am a free bleeder. But I have had to pull my own teeth before. it is dangerous and can lead to even more pain, and complications. So do not do that. The best way of course, is to go to the dentist

Lately for moderate tooth pain I've been led to mix about a tablespoon of food grade diatomaceous earth with about 8-10 ounces of water and drink (do this for other reasons too) [but] when tooth hurts,
I purposely hold the last sip which is a little thick like 'goop' in my mouth especially where sore tooth is - trying to leave it there for several minutes, and so far, it has gently and effectively quelled the pain, and seems to keep it away for a considerable length of time too!

After pain subsides drink more water, as food grade DE is best taken with plenty of water.

Also, because it (the DE) tends to sit on the bottom of the glass, (when the glass is nearly empty) I swirl the water around till the powder is floating well in the water and then drink before it settles again.

Food grade diatomaceous earth helps 'minearalize' bones + teeth and neutralizes bacteria and infections.

It's available online and at some feed stores and health food stores.

Be sure it's 'food grade' the 'pool filter' / industrial grade is unfit for human consumption.
