I have had a mucus producing mixed with horrible coughing spells and after going to the doctor today for shots and antibiotics...I got home around 3pm and the coughs have persisted...so I checked out this webpage and learned as much as I could and did all that I could, after 6 non-stop hours of no sleep and coughing, I decided to do all I could with what I had in the house- it is now midnight and I'm almost 90% cough free and not near as violently coughing- so thank you!
Here is what I did:
I drank hot tea with teaspoon of salt, cinnamon, honey and jack daniels
Wrapped feet in Noxema because I had no Vick's with saran wrap and socks
Spoon full of peanut butter
Neti-pot nasal rinse with boiled water & salt
I even smeared Noxema around nose & mouth for mentholatum effect
I learned not cold drinks try to keep drinking warm & hot beverages amd NO MILK- It made my flem thicker and harder to cough up
Here is to a better night- thank you all!

hey,
I've had a really bad cough and cold for the last 4 weeks and i would wake up at night, coughing and my nose would be running( disgusting, i know). one night i was hungry so i went and had a toast with butter on it and a paracetamol, i didn't cough for the rest of that night and it has worked. Now, before going to bed, i have a teaspoon of butter that i suck on and so it melts in my mouth and a paracetamol for my cold and it has worked. i recommend this for people that wake up from their sleep in a fit of coughing. i hope this works for you guys!

Its healthy to have hot tea, however not any tea is as useful. The best tea that worked for me was chamomile tea. It opens up the airways and deals with infection. Just make sure you're throat is always warm and sterile ( gargle some salt and hot water once or twice )

Fennel tea. I got up at 1.15 am. Unable to breathe without coughing and found this web site. Then before I made up any of the remedies I made a cup of fennel tea. Incredible, unbelievable, instant relief.
