After doing a lot of research online about toenail fungus and Vicks I decided to try it. I have had one discoloured toenail - the one beside my baby toe for almost 2 years now. To me it was a dark brown colour. I tried Vicks. Rubbed it on the toenail and underneath the toe bed twice a day (with nail polish on) for a month. After 1 week the top of my toe nail started to get rough and separate itself. I wanted to stop because I was afraid my toe nail was going to fall off. I continued this time filing the top gently. As the toe nail grew I cut it. Two months later there is hardly any brown left. I would say it is 90% cured. Vicks does work. I think it doesn't work for severe toe nail fungus. Hope this helps. As well I didn't use a generic brand.

Toenail Fungus
File nail till smooth, use a curved nail file to take down the surface faster. Apply Vicks Vapor Rub. Repeat several times a week. After one month one of my big toenails is grown out and normal. The other is 1/2 grown back and no fungus. Very happy with the results. My husband is trying it with his toenails and one fingernail.

I have had a fungus on one of my big toenails since April, 2012. I tried bleach (too harsh)and Vick's VapoRub with no results. I finally tried Dr. Paul's Piggy and it is working. I realize it is not a home remedy, but it has a combination of several of the suggested substances, including vinegar, thymol (found in Vick's VapoRub) and DMSO. I put it on my toenail in the morning and leave it on under a bandage all day. At night I let it air out. Once a week I soak my toe, cut it down and clean under the toenail with an orange stick. I have been doing this since the first of October, and my toe is at least a third clear. I will keep this up until the yellow is gone, and then NEVER go back to the nail salon where I think I caught it!

Well, here's one that works! I've had toenail fungus for over 20 years on every single one of my nails. In fact it was so bad that I NEVER went either barefoot or wore open toe shoes because they looked so bad. I tried so many of the home remedies - Listerine, bleach, Vicks Vapo Rub, tea tree oil and on an on. What finally worked was a mild solution (and a few times not so mild) of potassium hydroxide applied about twice a week after the nails had been softened with Vicks Vapo Rub and tea tree oil. Now, I don't know how much the Vicks and tea tree oil had to do with it, but, I told my doctor what I was doing, and when I mentioned potassium hydroxide, all he said was, 'That'll do it'. And it did. After about 5 months, my toenails are a little over half way replaced with beautiful new nails with that little crescent moon looking thing where the nail starts to grow. You can buy potassium hydroxide on Amazon in flake form. I mix it about 20% by weight with water. Amazon also has 10% solutions available. Potassium hydroxide is used to identify fungus by dissolving skin tissue and leaving the fungus to gauge its color against a color strip. However, by that time, the fungus is also dead.

I had a toenail fungus for more than 3 years. I had consulted number of dermatologists and applied their prescribed medicine but none of them worked. Then I came across home remedy - equal parts of Apple Cider Vinegar and Listrine. I simply filled up an old eye-drop dispensing tiny bottle with the mixture. And dropped 3-4 drops every day for 2 weeks and then occasionally. About 5 months ago when I started this remedy, 95% of the nail had separated from the nail bed. Now, all new nail is growing.

I have had a mild toe nail fungus problem in one big toe for several years. I felt like I had finally got it looking fairly normal, but went in to have it checked by my doctor. She said it looked fine but gave me her home remedy:
1 part warm water
1 part vinegar
2+ T baking soda
The level should just cover your toes. Soak preferable twice a day for 15-20 minutes, Also, apply fix overnight.
Allow 3 months to work

What I had used prior to this appointment was:
Warm water soak with Epsom salts
Soak in apple cider vinegar
Apply tea tree oil or anti fungal cream
After a shower I would apply hyrodrogen peroxide.
I also would periodically file the nails down to a normal thickness,
Get some open air and sunlight

Trimmed/Filed my toe nails as far as I could. They even started bleeding a bit. I also filed the top of the nails down until they appeared a bit healthier. I cleaned them out with nails tools the best I could. Toes Nails look awful but I was on a mission. I soaked them for 20 min. For the first 2 weeks/3 times a day I soaked a Q-tip with alcohol and cleaned each toe. Fresh one for each foot. Then did the same with Tea Tree Oil. Many times a day. After two weeks, I trimmed again and kept going with the treatments twice a day...still soaking daily for 20 min. It's been 8 weeks and my toes are almost back to normal. They look great. Still have a bit of work to do but they look 80% better. I will keep doing this for 6 months.

Noticed nail gone yellow and lifting away from nail bed as I was getting pedicure. After my initial freak out I cut the unattached part away as close to healthy tissue as possible leaving practically tge middle section of my toenail bed exposed and after reading about it on this site, started spraying exit mould on the nail morning and night. Wow! Nearly all grown back and pink healthy nail! I think exit mould is bleach as the toe part of my black socks went yellow but I prefer yellow toed socks and pink toe nails so very happy right now. Thrilled actually!!

Try Vicks VapoRub. I have found this to work wonders. you apply vicks to your nails twice a day, morning and evening and put clean white socks on after applying. I started this (and only this) in june of this year 2012 and now its november 2012 and my nails are almost clear and the thickness is markedly less. My nails are almost back to normal. I figure by the end of the year my nails will be just like they were prior to getting the fungus. I hope this works for others like it has worked for me. I have tried the over the counter fungus remedies but with no success.

Soak your feet in vinegar 30 minutes per night for two months, gets rid of toenail fungus.
