Okay so I am no doctor, I was in immense pain last night after dealing with a toothache for 6 days, the first day I was able to subdue the pain with a couple of tylenol, but as time progressed so did the pain and the pain medication. This is not the first time this has happened to me, so I immediately knew what the problem was, one of the exposed roots of my decayed teeth had become infected. Now as most of the people that have already posted here know an infected root is unbearably painful. long story short by the time I got to this page, I had already taken 5 325mg acetomenophine, 2 Ibuporfin 800 (prescription) and 4mg of Dilaudid ( this is a very strong pain medication usually given to cancer patients that deal with moderate to severe pain. NONE of them were helping, the problem was that I was taking nothing to cure the infection which is what was causing the pain. I have no medical insurance and a trip to the doctors office can be very costly, not to mention that after going to the doctor OR dentist you still have to fill the prescription. so I started looking around. please bear in mind that this remedy is not a quick fix and you will still have to deal with a couple of days of extreme pain. Which some of the other remedies on this page may help with. But if you want lasting relief you HAVE to kill the infection. and to do that you need antibiotics. Which is the reason for my post. after doing a bit of research I learned that Amoxicillin is what 95% of doctors and dentists will prescribe to cure and infection. problem is you need a prescription to get it. NOT TRUE!!!! Head down to your local pet store, and find the fish isle. There you are looking for a product called Fish Mox, it usually retails for around 5 to 10 bucks. The tablets come in either 250mg or 500mg tablets. To kill the infection you need to take 500mg every 8 hours for 7 days. the amoxicillin in fish mox is the same stuff as you get from a prescription and it works! I bought a bottle on my way home last night from the ER where they refused to give me more pain meds, course it'll still cost 500 bucks for the visit, but I had to do something. so my advice would be to find some nyquil, take it about 15-20 minutes before your ready to sleep and then use one of the other remedies to soothe the pain long enough to fall asleep, usually the nyquil will keep you asleep for a few hours. then try to sleep as much as possible as that's the best route to avoiding the pain. It'll take a couple of days for the amoxicillin to kick in and kill enough of the bacteria to provide you some relief but it will kill the infection. I have read on here how some of you go for weeks with this pain. I can't see how you do it. I can't go for a day with the pain. So get the Fish Mox, some nyquil and whatever your going to do to kill the pain to fall asleep and sleep till you can deal witht he pain. remember to take the amoxicillin every 8 hours and you should be good to go for a few months or at least long enough to get to the dentist.

My name is Rosie osorio, and i have the worse pain in my tooth, and i try everything you can possible try, but nothing worked until i was about to get my own tooth out my self and i did was horrible but i was about to jump out the window ,,the next day i went to the dentist and he thought that i was crazy so he told me that if i ever have the same kind of pain again .......,,he told me not to take it out lol but he gave me the best idea #1brush it real good #2 floss it really good too #3 use mouth wash like 10 times in a row until u feel the numbness .... becouse mouth wash kills every bacteria # if you have xanax is even better just take 1 or 2 mg and i promise u wont feel anything for at least 2 days but if u keep doing it you'll never feel any pain again, and the reason why is good to take xanax is becouse xanax is for nerves, and what causes the pain in your tooth is nerves ,......;-) > I hope that you feel better and let me know if it worked for you

I just want to thank the individual who suggested chewing crackers to a paste and putting that in your broken tooth to stop the pain. It worked. Saltine crackers. Amazing. I plan to try some of the other remedies next time (unfortunately there's always a next time with me and toothaches), but today all I had on hand was the crackers. THANK YOU.

Toothache go bye

After feeling like I could just pull out my own teeth do to the PAIN I was in..I decided to search the net for instant help and I must say I found it! Before I found this site I took to advil pms and rinsed my mouth with peroxide which help for a short period ofg time...than I seen the post oh here saying use Sensodyne! And boy was I happy I did..I mean instantly as soon as the toothpaste touched my four teeth that gave me pain it STOPPED!! I couldn't believe I want to jump for joy....try this you will be all smiles, just like me right now...Good Luck!

My s.o. has two broken teeth and no dental insurance. He had to have a wisdom tooth pulled a few months ago and it cost $400.00 +, granted it was considered oral surgery, but the most affordable 'simple' extraction price we've been able to find has still been in the $200.00 range. Multiply that by 2 and we're back to square one.

He has been trying numerous home remedies, and so far staying drugged up on benadryl and sleeping have been the best.

Salt water tends to take away the pain for 10 minutes or so, as well as Listerine.

Lemon juice mixed with salt didn't really help.

We just purchased Red Cross Toothache Medication and will be posting the results if it works.

One thing that he has loved so far as been filling a sock with uncooked beans. We put it in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes (be careful as I did read leaving it too long will start a fire). Even though it doesn't get to the root of the problem, it makes his entire face feel great.

Hopefully this will help...we'll post our progress if we come across anything else.

I have an exposed nerve problem. I could not sleep it was so bad. I could drink tap water and it would stop the exruciating pain for 3-to-5 minutes. But then I read on-line that chewing whole cloves would work as an antiseptic and antibiotic. So I bought a small continer of cloves, price $2.67. I chewed it and it immediately stopped the pain. I have been pain free all day. And hope to be able to sleep tonight. I'm VERY thankful for this remedy.

I have been sick for about a week now, head cold, congestion, etc and a few days ago my tooth/gums started aching. I've been just dealing with the pain but it has become pretty annoying. It hasn't been so much a sharp pain its more like a constant dull throbbing or aching in the gum area right above my tooth. I don't often get tooth aches so I am currently attributing this to my head cold. I have a whole drawer at work full of vitamins, supplements, etc as I am not interested in modern medicine. About 20 minutes ago I took 3 100 mg odorless garlic capsules orally, I had already taken 3000 mg Vitamin C this morning for my cold, and took one extra garlic cap, popped it and applied it directly to the area that has been bothering me. It doesn't taste that great and I think raw garlic would have been more effective but it definitely helped. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, spit it out and rinsed with sea salt and water. The pain itself is gone, I can still feel a slight throb/ache but it is a million times better. Hopefully now I can focus on my job. I will try raw garlic when I get home

I have been having bad teeth since I had my second child. Not taking enough calcuim and lack of care put my teeth in pretty bad shape. I have over 4 bad teeth and have no coverage for a dentist. I save enough money to see one so hopefully I get some tooth love. Some of the tricks on this webpage has help out alot not just with the treatments. Yet knowing I am not alone with this(that by itself ease some of the the pain I feel).Yet I do have a trick up my sleeve. Now this help for a good hour before you have to do it again. First you swish your mouth with mouthwash. Do it till it burns or you can't stand it no more. This will make sure that your mouth is clean. Then you get a piece of foil and a crush asprain and a little bit of salt. Then mix the crush asprain with the salt and dab of water to get a paste. Then you put the paste on the foil then on the tooth that hurt. It start to work in one minute and last for an hour aleast it did for me. I also add a dab mucle rub on the side of my face that in pain. Then I cover my face with a scarve to get area very warm. The pain stop and I start to feel better. I hope this help and one more thing I know this is hard thing to do but try to RELAX if you don't it just makes the pain worse. Mind over matter is a very powerful thing. If you try everthing on this page and still in pain. Go for a walk read a very good book , Watch a good movie. Do anything and everthing to forget about the pain. Cause as long you think about it the more it will hurt....SAD BUT TRUE!!!!.....And about sleep time don't force it. It will come time your body will crave sleep more then worry about pain you will pass out(belive me I went two days with out sleep because of my tooth. I finally pass out and went to sleep for six hours...lucky for me I am a stay at home mom and my husband was on vaction.) There is a sad but posite side to this you end up for a high tolarece for pain :)
