After reading several remedies here, I mixed Pure Vanilla, Pure Lemon Extract, and Ground Cloves together. Then I applied the mixture to a cotton ball and held it on the affected tooth for a few minutes. The affected area was numb, but the pain was instantly gone.

Warning: Mouth will become numb and you will drool a lot.

Like everyone else on here I too am suffering from excrutiating pain. Mine is from a filling that came out. I tried several of the remedies with the garlic clove giving the best result. The burning was horrendous and the smell very overpowering. While looking in my wife's spices in the kitchen I came across a tiny bottle (more like a tiny vial) of Cinnamon Oil flavoring. Out of desperation, I dipped a Q Tip in the oil and rubbed it all over the tooth and around the gum as close to the tooth as possible.. There was immediate relief (approx 99%) as well as a pleasant taste and pleasant smell.. I did this 45 minutes ago and still no pain.. I believe you would purchase this in the baking section of Walmart (around the extracts). I hope this is helpful and gives some of you some much needed relief...

I used tea tree oil on a q tip & applied direct to tooth that was in pain. I then crushed an asprin tablet & applied to tooth. I feel much better. I think the purple mouth wash & sensodyne helped but mildly. The former brought it down to just a mild ache.

I have had a very bad tooth ache now for three days and found no relief other than the dentist but no funds right now.
I googled up thus site and tried the garlic thing and it helped for a while with every pain pill I had or could find that help but what has really worked is Dr. Tichenor's, it burns like xxxx but try it, it is working for right now and seems that I will be getting some much needed sleep. Hope you feel better cuz this shit having a tooth ache is no joke

Tooth pain is the worst pain out there, & I'm sure ppl who are searching this site agree. I don't have dental insurance & when my tooth starts to hurt I do almost anything to make it better.

1. If you have abcess or inflammation, I suggest swishing with Bacardi 151, or some kind of strong vodka. It BURNS LIKE HELL but it works. Once you finish swishing, DO NOT SWALLOW. Spit it all out just in case your mouth is infected.
2. Listerine helps, I use the purple kind. I hold it in my mouth on the side where the pain is.
3. Garlic Cloves - they really do help. Chop one in half & put it between your tooth & your gum, or even lightly chew on it. If you have absess, you might hear it PoP. Garlic is great for inflammation.
3. Ibuprophen. I've tried all pain reliveers, & if you don't have an RX for something.. Ibuprophen works well. Take the RX dosage which is 800mg.

Ambesol & all that junk has never worked for me, if you have real tooth pain, then 9 times out of 10, those products won't work for you. .

I know how bad it hurts, so I really hope I have helped someone out there.

I started with a terrible toothache. I cant find a dentist that takes my insurance, so i was desperate. I tried brushing my teeth, using Listerine, even gargeling with rum. All this worked for a while then the toothache came back. Then I read try putting garlic in your gums, thats where my pain is actually. Well we dont have fresh garlic, so I found our garlic powder, i added some water and made a paste, and i put it on my gums and held it there for about 10 mins. It works, the pain is almost gone. I am going to try this several times a day to see if i can get rid of the bacteria that is making my gums hurt. I read that garlic is a natural remedy to get rid of the bacteria that makes us have toothaches, wish me luck! I hope this helps you too.

I've read most of these submissions and only tried a few. I tried the salt water and that barely helped. I also saw something about holding an ice pack on your jaw where your tooth hurts and that didn't help either. The only thing I've tried that worked is brushing my teeth and then swishing with mouth wash and that takes about 70% of the pain away. There's still a dull ache which is annoying but it's much better than what I was feeling before. So I highly recommend that. It doesn't last very long, but it works for me. I've had a root canal in one of my top left molars and I'm going back to do a root canal on my bottom right molar. Moral of the story is BRUSH YOUR DAMN TEETH.
