86 Home Remedies for Ear Wax Removal

I have had wax build up problems for years due to the fact that I wear ear buds. It builds up fast and, mostly in the right ear but the left is sometimes just as bad. I always scheduled appointments with my Dr to get it flushed, she actually likes doing it and seems to always succeed when I see her. I moved to a new state and my Dr is nowhere near me, plus I hate waiting. I found this site and bought a home earwax removal lit, first I used warm olive oil, left it in my ear for about 30 mins and drained it out. I let it sit in my ear for a few hours and then used the peroxide formula in the box I bought and let that sit for about 30 mins. I mixed some vinegar in with warm water and it didn't even take 3 minutes for the wax to come out!! I was so relieved I could hear! This is definitely a fantastic method for those struggling with clogged ears.

After a month or so of slight pitched ringing in my right ear (kind of like having my finger in my ear) I wend to get some ear-drops from the pharmacy. Well they promised and delivered very little.I was of the opinion that they'd soften the wax enough to come out naturally while sleeping etc? But all I think it did was soften it enough to collect against my eardrum while my head was on its side :/

Sod it I thought, there's gotta be a way that works without seeing a GP...for more medication! Well this website came up with the answer :) I'd read enough times of warm olive oil and jets of warm water for it not to work. So after purchasing a syringe, a pipette and small bottle of olive oil I was 'tooled up' enough to give it a go.

Warmed up the bulb of the pipette full of olive oil and dripped it into the ear. Waited for approx ten or so mins before massaging it into my ear with my fingertip, then emptying it out. Used a hair dryer on low to warm up the ear canal in an effort to soften up as much as possible. Now for squirts of warm water from the syringe. Over the sink started gently with the warm water from the syringe, slowly applying more pressure until I was literally firing squirts of three blasts into the ear canal. Well a few loose 'bits' were visible around the syringe nozzle then OMG, a block around 8x8mm fell into the sink. I could tell there was more wax in there so applied more warm oil before repeating the exercise. After approx 15-20 more squirts (blasts of three) two more blocks of about the same size came out followed by 'debris' (bluuurk)

Thank god I found this site as it has turned my hearing around. I can't believe how LOUD everything is now! Thanks to all who submitted a home remedy, it sorted me out a treat :)

Ears blocked a few days ago, hadn't used any drops or anything until today. Here's what I did...

- put LOADS of olive oil in my ear, lie down with that ear up and let it soak for 20 mins

- then I got straight in the shower and had it really warm, which kinda loosened it a bit.

- then when I dried my hair I blasted some hot air around my ear for a bit and this also helped a little bit.

- then I used the Aculife ear cleanser and shot blast after blast of hot water in my ear. Took quite a few attempts but it worked and now my hearing is clearer than its been it ages!

I was worried it wouldn't work as I hadn't been using drops for a few days before but it totally did! Whole process from first putting drops in to a clear ear was 2 hours max! Amazing!

That is amazing! Just used a Waterpik with warm water flushed out my ears and now I can hear again!! That's for all your advise. I can recommend as it worked for me.

1.Soften earwax with mineral oil or peroxide , rubbing alcohol for 10 min.

2.In your bathroom remove the shower head nozzle, and as the warm water streams out put it in your ear deep enough a couple of time and watch some earwax come out.I just tried it now and it works like a charm ....very happy !

So happy I had to share this. After making the common mistake of using cotton buds and ending up compacting the wax deep into my outer ear (up against the drum in BOTH ears) and spending a whole week almost completely deaf in both ears, today I tried this....

I filled a hand-pump plant sprayer bottle with warm water (as hot as I could tolerate) and inserted the rounded-ended nozzle into my ears before starting to gently pump short, quick (but fairly firm) squirts of water into my ear canals, changing the angles ever so slightly every so often . To my utter delight and astonishment, I soon started to see very small fragments of thick darkened wax falling into the sink beneath and as the wax continued to break down further as it got evermore softened by the warm water, the particles got larger to the point that CHUNKS of wax were coming out with BROWN water! I then carried on until nothing but clear water cam out, and now my hearing is fully restored! To say I am happy is an understatement! It is common knowledge that one is taking a risk when practicing DIY earwax removal, but when done correctly (with water, NOT candling) I believe it's actually safer because you can feel yourself the exact amount of pressure that is comfortable and adjust the pressure you apply to the pump accordingly! My mother's plant-sprayer has been a godsend and did the job BEAUTIFULLY. It is important to use one with a small round adjustable nozzle because it fits perfectly in the ear and needs to be adjusted to give out a jet rather than spray-mist. I urge anyone to give this a try, provided of course that your ears are otherwise healthy and not infected. You won't do any damage if you start gently and increase the pressure to what you feel you can tolerate. Go slow...the whole process only took me about 10 minutes and after lying down on my bed with my head to one side and then the other, the excess water drained within about 15 mins. Awesome!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! It had been a week of having no hearing in my left ear and I had just had enough. I had been using ear drops but they just weren't doing anything so last night I took your guys' advice and before I knew it, I can hear again!! Oil works!!

Thanks for the great list of ideas for getting the wax out! I used a combination of them. Here's what worked for me.

Heat a little olive oil over a candle flame. Take some up in a medicine dropper. Test a drop on your wrist. Should feel very warm but not hot. With ear skyward, drop in some oil. Next drop in a 50/50 mixture of 3\\% peroxide and 70\\% rubbing alcohol. It should start bubbling and fizzing in the ear. Now, still with ear skyward, lie down with a hot water bottle over the ear. Wait ten minutes. Then turn over, ear downward on the hot water bottle. Wait another ten minutes. Go to sink and, ear downward, flush it out with very warm water from a squirt bulb. Repeat until ... yay! you can hear again.

Hi all, just reading the comments regarding blocked ears. My left ear has been blocked for a week. I bought an ear wax removal syringe. I got a hot flannel and held it just below my ear for about 5 minutes. Filled the basin with warm water and sucked the water into the syringe, followed instructions just simply hold head over the basin and gentle press the plunger, I did this twice and all clear what a relief! Hope this helps all who reads it.

I had a problem with earwax buildup with my left ear for over two weeks. I've been using Q-Tips which only made it worse; not to mention that while trying to open the left ear, I messed with the right ear, and then I couldn't hear out of either ear. I also used Peroxide, and it didn't work. I finally found an ear rubber thing that I used to shoot HOT water in my ears after using eardrops. PLEASE don't use Q-Tips like I did, it only made it worse. I'm glad to have my full hearing back in both ears.
