people on here seem to say not to use oil, But i use butter and that works great for me. when you get a sun burn your skin is dehydrated. So it needs a fat that quenches the skin. I think when your sunburnt its the worst time to put anything on your skin that has chemicals in it. Would anyone put preparation H on an open wound?

I sometimes get the kind of burn that feels like bugs crawling all over me(on the sunburned areas. I was flipping out badly one night, the shower only worked while I was in there, any kind of clothing made it so much worse. I was running through the house yelling and crying. It really scared my husband so he called the emergency room. The nurse said take Benadryl Allergy. It made me fall asleep and I was fine. If I started to feel like this the next night, I took it again right away so I wouldn't have to go through that torture again. I was told that it was a form of sun poisoning. It is funny but it only happened to me after I had a baby, I guess the chemistry in my skin had changed. I still take Benadryl Allergy if I get a bad sunburn, I don't feel any pain when I am asleep and only minimal pain during the day.

Shaving cream!!

The other day I got home from the beach and realized I was badly burned. Right away I got out the shaving cream and rubbed it into my back like I would do with lotion. I slept so well and the next morning the burn was gone. I even slept on my back! (The cool cream cools down the burn the whole night)

I got my worst sunburn EVER and tried everything and nothing seemed to work. I tried vinegar, mustard, milk, cool showers. These would've worked if my sunburn had been less severe. The only thing I found that worked is solarcaine. It can be found at local drug stores. I would recomend getting the spray kind and not the gel kind because you can't put the gel kind on blisters but you can the spray kind, the spray kind is also a lot easier to use. You should also take ibprofin throughout the day (especiallyright before bed) for pain.

Vineger- It is the real deal! Probably, anything that cools the skin and reduces/relieves the inflammation will help. The tea bag treatment works well also.
The worst burn I've had in my fifty-five year old life happened about thirty-five years ago. My step-brother and I spent several hours in a ski boat on a lake. Being young and dumb (as opposed to being older and dumb, at this point!) we didn't use 'sissy stuff' like sun block:). We drove home, around a four hour drive, in a convertible. I still had on my swim trunks and, when we got home, had lobster red thighs. I've not had a burn as bad as that since. After a sleepless night I spent the next day at work pouring vineger on my legs. By that night, though my legs were still as red, they did not hurt at all. Now, if I could just find a cure for my lousy memory!

When I get a sunburn or am in the sun a lot I usually take a shower with warm water not hot and I then use a body wash usually one of the moisterizers with aloe in it and it gives relief almost instantly

first of all sun protection is the key, and if your looking for a great sunblock for kids and adults, use bullfrog, i have used every sunblock on the market and this works best. as far as the sunburn remedy i use nothing but vinager and neosporin on my kids when they get a sunburn. first you apply vinager to relieve itching and then neosporin for the actual burn. belive me this works! in just a few days you will see your burn fade away with no peeling or blisters, just be sure to keep applying the neosporin a couple of times a day.

If you don't want to smell like a pickle try vodka instead. Takes the burn away instantly. Just pour some in your hand and gently apply to the area...you could mist it on your body too.

My son had a very bad sunburn that had blistered, he could not even stand the touch of his shirt being on his skin. I made a paste of aloe vera gel, one bayer aspirin and vitamin a and d cream. It the blisters and the redness went away almost within a short period of time. It is an amazing cure.
