12 Home Remedies for Pregnancy


During pregnancy a pregnant women must take care of her health as well as the health of her baby. During pregnancy women needs extra nutrients in her food to balance the health of herself as well as baby growing inside her. During pregnancy baby growing inside the pregnant women consume nutrients from her mother so it is very important that pregnant women must take a good and balanced diet, so that pregnant women and her baby gets all the nutrients needed for good and healthy development of her baby. If pregnant women will take good and healthy foods during pregnancy then it will prevent complication mainly faces during pregnancy and growth of baby will not be affected due to deficiency of vitamins, minerals etc.

Healthy Food

Following are the main foods which needed during pregnancy.

Eggs: - A normal egg contains approximately 90 calories. It contains 12 vitamins in it and minerals also. Egg also contains protein contents in it which are very important for pregnancy. Eggs are also rich source of choline, which helps your baby’s overall growth and health of the brain.

Salmon (Fish):- Salmon is also very rich source of high quality protein and also very good source of omega-3 fats, which are very good for the development of your baby. Salmon contains very less amount of methylmercury, a compound found in the salmon which is very harmful for the nervous system of your baby.

Beans: - Beans like black beans, pinto beans, lentils and navy beans are so many beans you can choose to have in your diet. Beans are very rich source of fiber and proteins. Fiber containing food keeps away you from constipation problems normally women faces during pregnancy. Beans are also good source of calcium, zinc and iron.

Sweet Potatoes:- Sweet potatoes contains orange color as it contains carotenoids compound in it. Carotenoids is plant pigment which converted to vitamin A in our body as our body needed. Sweet potatoes are also good source of vitamin c, fiber and folate. So pregnant women must take sweet potatoes in their diet because it is very good for the growth of baby and also very good for pregnant women.

Whole Grains :-- Include whole grains in your daily diet as they are very good source of fiber and loaded with other ingredients like selenium and vitamin C. Pregnant women must whole grains in their daily diet for the development of the baby. A whole grain also contains phytonutrients, which is a compound found in plants which help us in protecting cells. So make whole grains as super food in daily diet mainly for pregnant women.

Walnuts:-Walnuts are very good or rich source of omega-3s. As we know that omega-3s are very important for the development of the baby. So must take walnuts during pregnancy. Walnuts are also good source of protein and fiber. So pregnant women must take walnuts as snacks or in addition to salad.

Greek yogurt: - Greek yogurt contains twice the amount of protein as amount found in normal yogurt. So pregnant women must make yogurt their favorite food. Yogurt is also very rich source of calcium, which plays very important role during pregnancy. Calcium is very important for the bones of baby. So pregnant women must take Greek yogurt in their diet because it provides good skeleton structure for your baby.

Green Vegetables:- Spinach, Swiss chard and kale are some leafy vegetables which are very rich source of Vitamin A, C and K and also contains folate in it. Green vegetables as we know are very good for eye sight as it contains Vitamin A in very good amount. So pregnant women must include green vegetables strictly in their daily diet as it is very good to them as well as for their baby.

Lean Meat: - As we know that protein are the very important as they are building blocks of every cell in our body. It also acts as building block for your baby’s body. Lean meat contains high quality protein. So pregnant woman who likes to have meat can take lean meat in their diet for the growth of their baby.

Colorful Fruits:- Eating color full fruits daily means you and your baby getting different types of vitamins and minerals. Each colored fruits provide different type of vitamin and mineral. So women must eat plenty of fruits during later stage of pregnancy so that pregnant women and their baby may get different types of vitamins and mineral for the development of their baby.

Berries:- Pregnant women must take berries as snack in their daily diet. Blueberries and black berries are loaded with Vitamin C, folate, fiber and potassium. So Pregnant women must eat berries during their pregnancy to consume vitamin C, fiber, potassium.

To prevent heartburn eat a pickle. The vinegar neutralizes the acid in your stomach.

Fish/borage oil and Omega 3 oils: for baby’s brain development.

Also good, Flax seed oil with high lignans, add to yogurt or cottage cheese for better absorption Pregnancy tea infusions:

Red raspberry leaf, Nettleleaf, Red clover leaf and blossoms, Dandelion root or leaf, Alfalfa, Oatstraw. Add pepprmint for flavor if you like. Make a infusion by adding a handful of all the herbs mixed into a large mason jar filled with boiled water, throw in the handful of herb and let steep for at least 20 minutes to one hour, then drink throughout your day. You can also do a Sun tea. Just let your jar sit outside in direct sun all day.

Detoxify your liver: Fresh squeezed Lemon juice and spring or filtered water every AM and throughout the day if you like.

Nausea: ginger tea, ginger sweets, mint tea- Homeoathic remedies: consult with me: Nux vomica, Pulsatilla, Sepia, Ippecacuana, petroleum, Tabacum

Heartburn: Slippery Elm lozenges, chew raw almonds, raw papaya, papaya enzymes or enzymes with meals. Fresh ginger tea,ginger sweets. Kefir or raw sauerkraut to aid digestion. See the book Nourishing Traditions By Sally Fallon for recipes to make kefir and sauerkraut. An excellent book.

ELECTROLYTE BALANCE: CONCENTRATE TRACE MINERAL drops by LiquiMins. Start with just a few drops because it may give you diarrhea. Also, Bone soups or vegetable broths and wild herb tea infusions for your trace minerals.

YOUNG COCONUT MILK., unsweetened. Emergen C packets or OLA LOA, in water. HMMM... How to make your own recharge drink? I gallon of spring water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons mineral sea salt or liquid minearal sea salt, one fresh squeezed lemon and maple syrup to sweeten, Very delicious. Children’s Pedialyte is another alternative.

topically on sore area. For nerve pain: St Johns Wort tincture taken orally, 1/2 dropper every few hours. Or homeopathic Hypericum 6 or 30c. taken orally, 2-3 x aday. Traumeel creme rubbed on sore areas directly, as long as skin is not open.

High Blood pressure: garlic, lemon juice, cucumbers, supplement w/magnesium.

Beginning at 32 weeks: GBS prep (strep B). A Probiotic: Gy-na-tren, made by Natren Company. for info. Buy at Vitamin Express on Shattuck and Rose Ave. in Berkeley. Use this orally and vaginally for strep neg. testing. Also add Kyolic Garlic caps or fresh raw garlic (better) to your diet daily w/ Ester C with rutin and bioflavinoids, 1-2 x daily, Echinacea tincture and Propolis tincture (separate) 4 x a day take echinacea no longer than 8 weeks at a time, then stop. Lavendar oil baths/douch. Tea tree oil supposatories and alternate w/1 fresh un-nicked clove of garlic inserted vaginally for three weeks before your GBS test. COLLOIDAL SILVER is safe in pregnancy, take three sprays a day. Nutra-biotic Grapefruit seed extract, anti-fugal, antibiotic, anti-viral, 1-2 drops a day mixed in water or juice.

Make love with plain yogurt as a lubricant.

Cervical Ripening: 500 mg. doses of Evening Primrose oil for cervical ripening or cervical scar tissue daily until birth. This may not be necessary for 2nd and third babies so please do consult with me first. Make Love often, sperm is a prostoglandin.

Uterine tonic to prime uterus for labor : 1 part black cohosh (cimicifuga racemosa), 2 parts black haw (vibernum prunifolium), 3 parts partridgeberry (Mitchella repens) 1/2 p. Ginger root, 1/2 part Birth root. Mix together tinctures , shake the bottle before each use. Start taking ther tonic at or afer 36 weeks of pregnancy. Dilute in 1-2 ounces of water, tea, or juice. Take one half teaspoon 2-4 times daily. You can omitt Ginger.

You can also simply just do Blue Cohosh. 20-30 drops in water, 2 times a day, starting at 36 weeks.

. OR to replace uterine tonic herbs you may do HOMEOPATHIC Caullphyllum 6c and Cimiciguga 6c, 2x a day as an alternative.

Continue herbs after birth to facillitate restoration of normal tone and circulation. Each dose of tincture contains alcohol equivalent to aprox. 1/20 of a glass of wine. STAMINA: SIBERIAN GINSENG and ROYAL JELLY builds stamina and endurance for labor and postpartum recovery

MASTITIS: Homeopathic Phytolacca for prevention of mastits 6 c, 2 x a day postpartum for 3 weeks fresh CABBAGE LEAVES for mastitis OR HOT COMPRESSES AND MASSAGE WITH NURSING. SORE NIPPLES LANSINOH NIPPLE OINTMENT , pure E oil.

HOMEOPATHIC ARNICA 200C for soreness, bruising, HEALING, BELLIS 200C FOR DEEP BRUISING. Weleda Arnica Massage oil for mama and baby topically when sore and aching. TRAUMEEL for the same.

St Johns wart oil: carpal tunnel syndome, sore sacrum or spine. Rub until oil has seeped in.

TO EAT: after birth your digestive power is often diminishes, yet your needs are great! Proteins: ricotta, cottage cheese. Sesame and Almond milk, split

Hulled mung beans, tempeh, legumes if they do not cause you gas, korean postpartum seaweed soup!! Yum. (Recipe on the internet) Lamb, Chicken and fish soups. Coconut ginger soups, Lassi, yogurt drink, kefir or buttermilk. Also ground nuts in nut milks and sauces. Avoid soy products. WARM FOOD!

Carbs: Basmati, quinoa, cous cous, yams, sweet potatoes, winter squash, oats.

Avoid sucrose, fructose is preferrable. Do not cook with honey.

Fruits: sweet fresh and NOT chilled. Young coconut milk to drink and coconut milk in cream sauces and or soups. Coconut oil is delicious.

Vegetables: Cooked until softer, asparagus, beet, carrot, summer squash, pumpkin, avacado, artichoke, okra, zuccini, green beans, bocolli, broccolrabe.

Be sure to use fresh olive oil (refrigerate) on top, Celtic sea salt to taste, lime or lemon juice for seasoning.

Seasonings: Basil, a little black mustard seed, Cumin, Caraway, citrus peel, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, anise, licorice powder, garlic, prepared only by browning or mincing in butter. Ginger, fresh is best.



Baby with gas/colic: Fennel seed or anise seed in bulk. Take one handful and put in boiling water for at least 20 minutes, sweeten as desired and drink with meals. Delicious. GRIPE WATER. Hylands Colic tablets. No dairy. Positonal releases for gas.

To build Milk Production: A good latch, nurse on demand and hand compress and/ or pump in between nursing if supply is low. A quiet calm room for both to Rest with skin to skin contact. Motherlove tincture More Milk Plus or bulk tea infusions of Goats rue, Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, Nettle Leaf, Raspberry Leaf, Alfalfa, Fennel Seed must be boiled for twenty minutes and then added to infusion or drink seperately.

POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION: for mood swings and emotional balance: Vitex, Motherwort, Lemon Balm, for nerves and stress: Oats, Scullcap, Chamomille, St Johns Wort,

Homeopathy: consult first, Pulsatilla, Nat Mur, Sepia, Arsenicum, Ignatia etc.

Flower remedies; Gorse, for discouragement and despondency.

Mustard for deep gloom for no reason. Sweet Chestnut for mental anguish, hopeless despair, sorrow, exhaustion, lonliness.

CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM soothes nerves.




Take a couple TUMS before bedtime to help prevent leg cramps. I had severe leg cramps and this helped. I also learned to stretch with my toes pointing inwards not out.


For pregnancy heartburn try chewing Spearmint gum. This was the only thing that helped me. Antacids didn't work for me, but I found chewing Spearmint gum did!


Be careful when drink teas in pregnancy! Especially if you have any preterm contractions. Raspberry tea leaves are know to cause contractions and labor. My OBGYN informed me of this. I am working on my fourth baby, and they have all been premature so far. Just check the ingredient list to make sure.

I suppose this would be good for those who WANT to go into labor, after they're due!


For Pregnancy Heartburn-
I have heard that more heartburn you have, the more hair your child will have! Well, not sure if this is the truth, but taking all those Tums with calcium couldnt have hurt. If you are concerned about the makeup of tums or rolaids, my suggestion is this... Mix a tsp of bakin soda in a small glass of warm water. Mix, and drink as quickly as possible. Heartburn relief is almost instant, and has no bad chemicals that are unsafe for baby. Use it for nausea as well! YOU WILL NOT THROW UP!


Avoid alcohol and smoking for the health of the baby.


Take alfalfa, dandelion, and kelp to reduce fat deposits on the hips.
