For allergies or just a runny nose, I drink a glass of water with 1/2 tblsp of tumeric and cinnamon. works within a few minutes and I feel good for a few days.
If you have a stuffed up nose or are conjested, take icy hot or it may e store-brand and put it in the heels of your feet. It sounds gooffy but it really works. People who don't believe in internal medicine use this!
Pure natural japanese mint oil. About 4-5 drops on your index finger and dab to same finger on other hand. Then apply to the temples, the back of your neck at the hairline, behind earlobes and any remaining on your upper lip, under your nostrels. Also steeped a strong blend of organic peppermint tea with ginger and 1/2 tsp of salt. One last final touch.. A Wheat-bag heated in mcrowave 2 mins. Great to put around shoulders and up to the ears. It helps to keep a neutral head position so things can clear out right. I don't know if anyone will find this helpfull but it works for me. I actually carry mint oil with me because it helps ease the headaches brought on by muscle tension or congestion.
I read nearly all the remedies on this site and was thrilled when I found a few that worked well for me. Though, none of them worked the way they were supposed to. I did find this though. Using the method of holding one nostril closed while I snorted warm salt water worked only when my nose was open. If it was completely closed there wasn't much I could do. But then when it opened, unbetween the salt water and spitting, I would try and breathe in pepper to get myself to sneeze. That never worked but strangely it did help open my sinus'.
I've had this problem for over 30 years. I found the best treatment for me is heavy exercise. I don't know if it's the hard breathing, heart moving more blood or what. But it works for me. Maybe it's the hot shower afterwards.
Fold a paper towel longways and run it under warm water. Then place over the nose bridge and under the eyes pinching it down softly so it lies against the sides of the nose. This will creat a warm compress over four different sinsuses (two under your eyes and one on each side of the nose) it helps relieves sinus pain, congestion, and some feelings of unwellness. (Note: Your nose may temporarily run more as a result of the warmth)
I HAVE SUFFERED FOR YEARS WITH WAKEING UP AT NIGHT WITH MMY NOSE PLUGGED UP AND FEELING LIKE I CAN'T GET ENOUGH AIR TO BREATHE. WHEN THE 'BREATHE-RIGHT' PRODUCT CAME OUT I THOUGHT I HAD FOUND A SOLUTION. IT HELPED A LOT BUT I HAD TO SCRUB MY NOSE SO HARD TO GET IT TO STICK THAT MY NOSE WOULD RASH AND IT STICKY GLUE WOULD STILL COME OFF SOMETIMES DURING THE NIGHT. THE OTHER PROBLEM WAS THE COST (ALMOST $10.00 A BOX FOR ONE MONTH). I FINALLY FOUND A BETTER AND MUCCH CHEAPER SOLUTION. I TAKE A Q-TIP (I USE EQUAATE ,500TO A BOX,FOR ABOUT $2.00) AND GENTLY BEND IT INTO A ARC SO THAT IS JUST A LITTLE WIDER THAN THE OUTSIDE EDGES OF THE TWO NOSTRILS. THEN I INSERT THEM INTO EACH NOSTRIL BY BENDING THEM JUST A LITTLE MORE. THE FLEX OUTWARD OF THE Q-TIP THEN SEPERATES THE NOSTRIL TO RESTORE FREE BREATHING. IF YOU SSLEEP ON YOUR BACK OR SIDES IT WORKS WELL. IT COULD BE A PROBLEM FOR STOMACH SLEEPERS, AND YOU WON,T WANT TO GO OUT ON A DATE WEARING THEM, AND I DON'T THINK THE NFL WILL BE WEARING THEM. LOOKS FUNNY BUT IT WORKS. AND IF IT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, HEY YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING TO CRAM IN YOUR EAR NEXT TIME IT ITCHES! (JUST KIDDING)
does anyone rmember the old remedy from foxfire and mother earth news; cut up 4 medium onions and place in a large glass bowl sprikle on 2 tbs of white sugar cover bowl w/ large towel boil 3 quarts of tap water and carefully pour over contents of bowl again cover ; wait 4-5 minutes b4 in hailing vapors under towel do at the kitchen table and try no to get burnt!
I know everyone has tried countless times to help head conjestion. Ive actually took the old Boiling heat Bowl remedy into to play with my shower. If you have a big shower it might take a lil longer. But what I do is let my hot water shower run and steam up the bathroom... then stand or sit either or... i try to stand if im feeling a lil better and breathe only through your nose. It will break up any mucus stuck in your sinus glands than poof... you got a runny nose to blow and a chest full of mucus to hack up... then follow with Hot tea, honey, and alchohol if you are old enough. I have old english tea with Lyles honey... its hard to get. And i try to mix maybe a half of a shot to a shot and half depending on your alchohol preference.... then you feel a lil better. Ill add more if i can find out what else i can put in the shower to steam up the room with something more effective...
For few minutes of congestion relief, try laughing.
