Clove oil is what my dentist used! I don't know if I could clean out a cavity myself (OUCH!) but I would recommend putting some clove oil on a a piece of gauze and keeping it on the sore tooth or gum. This is just a temporary fix though. You'll need to see a dentist to get the problem taken care of.

I USED CLOVE OIL THAT I BOUGHT AT WALLGREENS. OUT OF DESPERATION I BOUGHT EVERYTHIING I COULD. HOW EVER AFTER USEING IT IT DIDNT TAKE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST EDGE OF PAIN AWAY. BUMMER FOR ME. CAUSE IM STILL IN PAIN AND THE HEAD ACHE IS STILL GOING.

I was suffering from dry socket a few min ago and just got the red cross stuff which is basically clove oil... It came with lil tweezers and a pack of tiny cotton balls so I just soaked the balls in the liquid and applied it inside the dry socket and other than the VERY PUNGENT oder of the clove oil the pain relief was quick and very much needed. Also got som ibuprofen and took about 400mg of that. I had been taking upwards of 2000mg of Codene and passing it out to get rid of the pain for like 2 weeks. Best bet got see the dentist if you got money

sorry, to tell you this but the American dentist association are full of crap. I should know, my wife is a dentist. use a toothpick to clean the cavity or growing tooth very well.

Yes, clove oil works great but must be used with some caution. Clove oil extract can be found commonly in the home remedies area of a store, in the area where you find candles - incense - - oil burners, or in the Red Cross kit in the oral hygiene area of drug or grocer store. The Red Cross comes pre diluted but if you buy the pure extract, you will want to dilute it with olive oil. The reason this is, the pure clove extract will burn and damage the surrounding tissue causing further damage, risk of infection, and worst. I use this remedy all of the time and have had much experience with this method. I wish you all that are having this problem the best of luck with this method of relief!!

For my husband's toothache, we had no clove oil, but used a paste made of ground cloves and water on a cotton ball. Almost instantly stopped the pain, and when he went to the dentist the next day, there was no sign of infection...the cloves had 'drawn it out'. The dentist was impressed -- she had never heard of that.

I have been suffering from a toothache for about a week now and I was at work surfing the internet when I found this remedy. When I got off work I went to the local pharmacy and found the clove oil. It came in a little kit. I went home and used it and within that minute or so my pain was gone(NO LIE!!). I'm telling you it really work but you can only put it on the cavity or otherwise it will burn.
