107 Comments for the Tired Eyes Home Remedy

Place a small amount of boric acid in 2 cups of boiling water. Let it cool and use the solution with eyecups to wash the eyes for quick relief and also to clean the eyes.

Your cool mr. smartey pants who knows EVERYTHING!

If you look on the ingredients for MOST eyewashes/artificial tears the 3rd or 4th one is almost always boric acid

I have used boric powder mixed with sterilized water for my eyes when irritated or had an infection starting. It would knock it out within one day. The solution shouldn't be used daily, but for short term remedy I find it excellent.

As with any thing, you need to use care. I use 1/4 tsp. in a quart of water. Boil for 15 min. then cover and let cool. I use a small plastic syringe to apply. Don't take my recipe as yours, but check with someone with authority.

Sadly, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find boric acid. It works much better than eyedrops I've gotten at the pharmacy. Most irritate my eyes!

Good luck and be careful.

I have ten kids and, as you all can imagine, have had many episodes of pink eye over the years. When my first baby was born, used boric acid to kill roaches in my apartment rather than the pesticides the mantinence company wanted to use. I was the only one in the building who had no problems with roaches. A friend told me about the boric eye wash for pink eye and was extremely skeptical. Long story short, have had dozens of cases of pink eye with my kids, never filled the prescriptons the doctor gave me, just used the eye wash and always cleared up in 2 days or less!! Even the doctors were amazed. Just made a batch for my 19 year old son who has a bad case of pink eye. CAUTON: see a doctor if you think you have an eye infection, better safe than sorry with your precious eyesight! NT

Just use ANY SOFT-CONTACT LENS SOLUTION instead of mixing your own concoction, either as an eyewash or drops. It contains boric acid as an antibacterial agent, and is obviously already at the proper concentration that you can soak your contact lens in it and then leave it in your eye for the entire day-- all without leading to blindness or death!

why use this when cammomile is a great remedy to relieve stys Get a cammomile tea bag in warm water and wipe the eye several times. change cotton wool every time Do this as many times in a day as you like. My family have done this for years.

Ha Ha you Boricsh fear mongers...let the pharmacists sell you there products...One used to be able to go into a drug store and get a bottle of boric acid solution diluted to the correct amount and an eye cup was provided. I went looking today and there was a plethora of eye products none of which were the simple boric acid solution. I bought some boric acid from the pharmacist and she tried to look up the dilution ratio but wasn't privy to this historic remedy and was unable (or unwilling) to provide dilution ratios. The AMA triumphs again. Thanks to those of you who provided the (1)TBSP per (1)Qt ratio and mentioned sterility.

(1 TBSP Boric Acid, with 1 QT water, boil at least 5 minutes) straining it through a coffee filter removes anything undissolved. When cooled pour out a small amt in a bowl to use, starting with least infected eye. (I use a spoon, blinking my eye in the solution for a few minutes as I hold over the bowl) Rinse bowl & spoon, pour more & repeat for other eye. 3x a day. Keep your main batch covered to prevent contamination. (working 5 generations now)

Boric acid solution and an eye cup to bathe the eye 3 or 4 times a day solved 99 percent of the eye troubles for my 5 siblings and I for years and years. No problems with even blurry vision - let alone blindeness.
Sprinkle boric acid powder along routes roaches travel and they will take it back to the nest and kill them all - without poisinous commercial toxins.
Leave a small bowl where mice are seen and they will eat it and dehydrate themselves.

<B> K this all sounds great, many people have used it and say its worked. . . Well i have Pink eye now, or some type of eye problem and i've had it for about a week now . . . Tried several over the counter medicines and nothing has worked. Where can i go to purchase Boric Acid???
