Okay, so used to have really bad nasal congestion. Ever since my childhood i could only remember being able to breath through one nostril, the other completely blocked, or both were completely blocked. So it got really bad when i was around 11 and i consulted a nose specialist. He said i had minor adenoids and that an operation was really unnecessary. so that was when i got hooked on nasal sprays and such which really only made it much worse because of rebound congestion.
NOW, for the solution:
Someone told my mum about this so i tried it.
You need:
1. A cup of warm water (not a level or two below burning, so you can inhale it)
2. Salt
3. Any ordinary eating spoon
4. A glass
Steps:
1. Add a few pinches of salt to the warm water (you can adjust later on)
2. Stir with a spoon until it's dissolved
3. Put the spoon in the water and raise it up to one of your nostrils(close the other nostril). You will now breathe in the water, so just make sure it isn't too hot. The water should come out of your mouth and you spit it out. (i do this over a sink) If it tastes too salty, just empty the glass and refill and add less salt.
4. Repeat this step until the glass is about half full. You'll a lot of mucus and phlegm comes out, that's fine just keep blowing and what not in the middle of this exercise.
5. Repeat the exercise with the other nostril now until the glass is empty.
And you're done.
Do this once in the morning after you wake up and once in the night before sleep. You'll get immediate long lasting relief. I do it for 2-5weeks and then i have a cleared nose for at least 2+ years, however it is good to make a habit of this exercise for a completely cleared nose. I'm now doing this exercise for the 2nd time in my life after 3 years and it's working great.
I am 15 from Australia, Victoria.
I really hoped that i made myself as clear as possible because this exercise is just so effective, and i understand how frustrating nasal congestion can be because it can turn a good day into a disaster.
Thank you :)

OMG!! Thank you sooooo much!! Finally relief there were times this week that I felt like I was going to not be able to breathe altogether. For anyone who said it didn't work I would try it a few times. I did have to go at it for a few minutes, and will have to put in more effort for my left nostril, when I'm not so sleepy, but it did work. Thank you!!! Now I can get some rest!

I've been having some congestion and post nasal drip pretty bad for the past week (especially the post nasal drip). I decided to give this a try after waking up in the middle of the night again. I only tried it on one side since only one side is congested, but I did see a difference. My congestion is not completely gone (maybe if I had done both sides?...) but I was able to get a lot out. I blew my nose after each spoonful (about 2-3 snorts) and was able to get something out each time. I plan on trying it a couple more times over the next few days to see if there is any improvement (maybe with a touch of vinegar next time), but as far as a free and easy at-home remedy, I'd say this really isn't too bad. You can't beat the price, if nothing else :)

I was up till 4am with severe nasal congestion (second day in a row battling sleepless nights) and decided to do research on homemade recipes when I came across this post. I immediately tried it since it only required warm water and salt. Initially snorting it made me gag, but after 5 snorts in each nostril, it felt better. After about 3mins, I was able to blow my nose and very lil' phlegm came out! After almost giving up, I cleared my throat and thick phlegm (almost the size of a fist) was coughed out. I'm still in shock! Thank you so much for this post. Now I can sleep soundly!

I tried this around 5 AM when I was having trouble sleeping, it felt weird at first but worked great! Thank you! I will be using this in the future.

My family has a history of asthma and I have been suffering from seasonal allergy/cold. Claritin and other drugs didn't help much except making me drowsy every time. We finally learned an extremely effective method from an Eastern herbal medicine book. (The book is about 100 plants/vegetables and their miraculous cures for various ailments. Unfortunately it's in another language and I don't know if there's an English translation. You can do some personal research on herbal medicine, fruits, and vegetables in general.)

I received instant result the next day; no more congestion, runny nose, phlegm, no more cold feeling around my chest area, and I no longer feel like I drown in my own water every time I go to bed and wake up. Pollens and whatnot, I now can breathe and walk freely in the park during spring and summer time. What a relief!!! If the following method is also effective for you, please spread the words to others also.

-Buy some fresh garlic bulbs, take out about 4 pieces/cloves (or a few more pieces/cloves if you don't mind the smell and taste), peel off all their papery covering, and cut the pieces/cloves into small slices (like how you would for frying or sauté)
-Get a fairly full cup of water (like a normal coffee cup/mug)
-Boil the water and the garlic slices in a pot for about 5-10 minutes (the main purpose is to get the garlic's juice)
-Wait for it to cool down and drink the juice
-Do so daily until the symptoms of allergy/cold are gone

I personally prefer the taste and smell of burnt garlic, not boiled garlic, so I usually have to eat a bit of something sweet after every time I drink the juice. :D If you don't like the lingering smell and taste of garlic afterwards, drink some tea mixed with a few slices of ginger. Ginger also helps in warming up your body. It really worked for me and my family. I now no longer suffer from nasal congestion and I hope it will work for you too.

I have been suffering from nasal congestion for 2 days and I could not breathe through my nose. I have not had success with this remedy but I will try again.

I've been sick the last couple of days and it is now 330 am and I can NOT sleep because my right nostril is so plugged up. I live in a very small town where everything closes at 9, so I tried this because it was the only remedy I could find that I had all the supplies for. I had a hard time snorting the water (I could only get it far enough up to come back out my mouth once?)...anyway it isn't completely clear but its 100 times better...at least I can sleep now. Thank you thank you thank you!
