After getting migraines for years approximately 4-5 per month for 2-3 days each time, a neurologist finally suggested I should try stopping use of the birth control pill. I was on Yasmin. Amazingly, this worked like a charm for me. I get a migraine maybe once a month now - huge difference in the quality of my life! If only someone had suggested it earlier.

I had a similar problem with a different birth control pill, when my doctor found out I started suffering from severe migraines she was upset I didn't tell her sooner because I didn't relate the two, but she took me off of them right away and said I should never take anything with estrogen in it as it puts me at a higher risk for a stroke, so the only think she could give me was a pill that you take around the clock without stopping but they gave me severe, severe acne... so, my last resort was the IUD, I had the Mirena inserted which has 'local' estrogen in it but the doctor assured me it's only local, well after years of not having a migraine I got two since it was put in few months ago. I had one yesterday that came with the blurry vision and all and now I'm really worried... Not sure what to do next.

I have had the asme problems with Birth control. I have been on several different brands for the last 8 years on and off but last fall I started getting crazy headaches. I finally realized that these were the beggingin of some crazy migranes. After 6 months, many prescriptions, many crazy migraines that were making me ill for up to 7 days I switched to a birth control with no estrogen only prgesterin. its not as common and a bit more expensive then the others but its cut my headaches back by bout 50%. Give it a try. Otherwise I just really have to watch my diet, stress levels. Wines and beers, chocolate and coffee are major triggers. Still havent found a permanent cure yet and Ive disocered that my 2 aunts and my granmother suffer the same problem.

I have the same issue. The only downside is,its either deal with nearly daily migraines, or live without birth control. My doctor has had me try several forms including an IUD and an implant (Implanon), which use different forms of hormones than do the pills I was taking. I'm still getting migraines, at least I know its my contreceptive causing them.

I am as unlucky as the rest of you. I am unable to take birth control at all. when I was young it was becuase of a heart condition but now any one I have tried have given me horrible migraines. I stopped the birth control over a year ago. Took six months for my migraines to go away again. But now I only get them in waves every 3-4 months.
