Have the child get plenty of vitamin C to increase his or her ability to absorb the iron. Vitamin C rich foods include broccoli, green peppers, and citrus fruits.

We were also advised of this. In particular our Health Visitor recommended giving children orange juice to drink with their breakfast. Orange juice being very high in vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron from their cereal.
