BoileyGurl

I suffer with boils on my right thigh right below my right buttocks. A CVS Pharmacy clerk recommended I try
Ichthammol Ointment 20%. It's a black
ointment that smells like some kind of
burnt meat, but it worked to ease the pain of my boil and eventually cause
my boil to drain after one application!
It cost under $5(USD) and is made by
Goldline.

Thank you for this recommendation it worked just as fast as you said and it only cost $.53. I did try the honey and cinnamon, the onion, epson salt, aloe and a host of other home remedies. I couldn't take it any more so after 8 hrs I went to the pharmancy and bought it and in less than 8 hours it was draining on its own. I will recommend this to anyone I know if they ever get a boil.

Ammonium bituminosulfonate (ichthyol or ichthammol, CAS#8029-68-3 is a product of natural origin obtained in the first step by dry distillation of sulfur-rich oil shale. It is used in medicine as a remedy for treating some forms of skin diseases, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. It is commonly used in an ointment in 10% or 20% concentrate as a 'drawing salve', also called 'black ointment'. Its dermatological action was discovered by German physician Paul Gerson Unna.

This is a common salve to draw splinters, spider poisons, boils and about anything out of your skin.

Chemically, it is a sulfonated shale oil. It can be presented in two forms: pale sulfonated shale oil (PSSO), and dark sulfonated shale oil (DSSO). DSSO is also sometimes called ichthammol. The last form is a thick reddish brown liquid, possessing a bituminous odor and taste. It is soluble in water and miscible with glycerin, but is nearly insoluble in strong alcohol or concentrated ether. It contains a large percentage of organically combined sulfur. Ichthyol is incompatible with acids, alkali carbonates or hydrates and alkaloidal salts.

Pharmacologically, PSSO and DSSO have anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and fungicidal properties. In otology, a mixture of glycerol and ichthammol (G & I) has been used for generations for the topical treatment of ear infections. It is efficient against Gram-positive organisms. The anti-inflammatory action is explained by its influence on the formation, secretion and effect of inflammation mediators. DSSO is well tolerated and no indications of teratogenic, mutagenic or carcinogenic effects have been noted.

I have had this horribly large boil in my armpit and wow does this hurt. I usually tried an ointment called Boil Ease but didn't have any. The only relief I could get just so I could sleep was to wrap it. Works for a little while, but you find yourself waking up frequently in pain...I even read this morning to try the slimy part of an egg...I tried it and all it has done so far is dry and become very itchy and painful. I am soooo ready to try this black ointment and pray it works as you all are saying. I will post my results... wish me luck

Well I have had the ointment on for maybe 2 hours now and although its not opened yet, let me tell you the pain relief I have gotten. Ahhhh much better. I am hopeful that by morning it will have opened up. Thanks
