CALAMINE LOTION? NO.
HYDROCORTISONE CREAM? NO
RUBBING ALCOHOL? NO.
VINEGAR? NO.
PEROXIDE? NO.
SALT? NO.
BAKING SODA? NO.
HOT (ALMOST SCALDING) WATER? NOPE.

I THOUGHT I WOULD FIND NOTHING TO HELP ME!

AND THEN....

I FOUND THAT STRAIT CLOROX BLEACH WORKED GREAT ON TOTALLY GETTING RID OF POISON IVY, AND QUICKLY.
I HAD NO PROBLEMS ~ IT DIDN'T STING, BURN, OR EVEN IRRITATE MY VERY SENSITIVE SKIN. (I CAN'T EVEN USE BAR SOAP, HAVE TO USE 'CETAPHYL' OR BABY WASH OR I GET A RASH.)
BUT MY POISON IVY WAS GONE WITHIN 2 DAYS OF JUST DABBING BLEACH ON IT WITH A COTTON BALL ABOUT 2 TIMES A DAY.

ANOTHER THING THAT HAS WORKED FOR THE ITCHING AND IRRITATION IS ACETONE NAIL POLISH REMOVER, OR STRAIT ACETONE. (YOU CAN FIND IT WITH THE NAIL POLISH REMOVERS BASICALLY ANYWHERE) IT STOPS THE ITCH, BURNING AND REDNESS ALMOST INSTANTLY, BUT THE BLEACH IS WHAT I FOUND DRIES IT UP, AND GETS RID OF IT.

I HOPE I HELP SOME OTHERS TO CURE THEIR ITCHY~SCRATCHIES!

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE....! As a child I grew up in the woods loved em', practically lived in em'. I was an avid camper and tree climber! I am so severely allergic to poison Ivy that i've nearly died from it atleast 5 times growing up. Finally once when I had it a couple years ago I knew I had to nip it in the bud before it spread and killed me, so I tried everything. Bleach is the answer, however using pure bleach is just WRONG! I'm also a nurse and using pure bleach is down right dangerous especially on large area's. Pour about 3-4 cups of bleach into a hot bath and soak for larger areas. If you can catch it while it's still localized to one area, such as the foot or hand, immediately soak in HOT as you can stand it water approx. 1 gallon along with 3-4 tbsp of clorox. GOOD LUCK! PS- NEVER PUT BLEACH ANYWHERE IN OR NEAR THE EYES, THIS COULD CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE. SEEK CARE OF PHYSICIAN IF IT'S IN YOUR EYES>

This is my first time commenting on this site. I had used myhomeremedies.com before for a toothache and with much success -(I filled the tooth hole in my tooth with candle wax -temporary solution). Anyway bleach for poison ivy is absolutely correct. I used bleach after first trying 'tecnu - poison ivy rub'. The 'tecnu -poison ivy scrub' cost me $15.00 and it made my rash worse, -spreading it around my eyes and more of my face. Tecnu wasn't working at all. After worrying I would look like a monster, I was desperate. I logged onto myhomeremedies.com and I tried the 'bleach method'. It stopped the spread of the rash in a few hours but it burned like hell. The next day about 40% of the rash was starting to scab. I did some research and found bleach breaks down the urushoil (the chemical that causes the rash). I am a male from Philly, Pa and somewhat image conscious. I was desperate and bleach saved the day. It’s now nearing the end of day two on the 'bleach method' and I’m so happy I had to share. Good luck! Trust me it works.

I used the nail polish remover. It works great it stopped itching immediatly. Thanks so much. I didn't want to use the bleach though cause it seems very unsafe! lol

Larry

does anyone wash the bleach off or just leave it on?

Joseph

YES, THIS DOES WORK!!!

As a kid, I got poison ivy every single year, and it would spread really bad. Finally, one of my dad's friends told me a story that he had it bad on his arm. He said he scratched it up, poured bleach on it, and it was gone within days.

I tried this the last few times I've had poison ivy and it worked every time. I currently have it and am ready to use the bleach. It works. If it's not working, scratch it up, open up the sores...then pour the bleach on it. It stings a bit, but it's worth it.

And for that guy that has it by his eyes. Use a q-tip to precisely dab it. Definitely don't pour it or get it in your eye! It just needs to get wet.

See, this is why people say going swimming in chlorine helps - it dries it up. Same with zits.. dries it up.

This works, it works, it works.

I too was skeptical... Clorox on an open wound???
BUT IT WORKED! Did it 3-4 times a day with cotton ball, let it sit for a few minutes and then flushed with cool water.
10 days later all that's left are dry scabs and the skin is healing.
FANTASTIC!

Just tried the clorox and it works fairly well. It is not actually pure clorox, it's a clorox wipe I have at work but I noticed the relieve right a way.

I'll try the pure stuff once I get home.

I have a very serious case of poison ivy. Been to the dr and got prednison but the itching is intense and I'm still noticing spreading. I am gonna try this 'bleach remedy' and let you know how it goes. There is not a part on my body that is not affected. Im in desperate need of relief!!!

PLEASE THINK before applying chemicals to your skin! Poison Ivy/Poison Oak; leaves OPEN areas, these chemicals are ENTERING your blood stream!
