To get fleas off your pet, try bathing them in Dawn dish washing liquid. It kills the fleas it comes in contact with. Borax worked for the carpet better than salt for me. We used it for roaches, too before we moved into our house. Advantage works to help keep the fleas off, but Dawn will kill most, if not all, fleas.

I have tried the Dawn and Salt...so far wonderful on the Dawn and now I started the salt just to see what I have to work with...only a matter of days to see if it works...Thanks for everything...!

Would you suggest bathing a kitten (about 4-6 weeks old)in Dawn?

Tuscan Equine

I would not suggest using the Dawn on a new born 6-8 week kitten. The Dawn dries out their skin VERY much, so if you go ahead and use it, slather conditioner on them after you wash the Dawn off, to rehydrate their skin (then rinse ALL products off). Think about what Dawn does to your hands whyle doing the dishes!

Will an oatmeal b ody wash work as well in replacement of the Dawn?

Tuscan Equine

Good thought on the oatmeal bath. I am not sure if it would remove any fleas or anything, but it may. Do that as a conditioner to the animals skin. Get a Vet perscried medication to treat the fleas though. The oatmeal will help, NOT Cure!

last year i had a cat and she was INFESTED with fleas and she had sores all over her, i gave her a bath in dawn antibacterial dish liquid and its was like the next day her hair and her sores were lookig better! but now its both my dogs and my cats, advantage dose not work on them at all, no matter how many time i bath them, their polleted, and my ankels are starting to feel the pain also, the only dawn i have is with the alternative bleech in it and that might burn, and i dont have 50-80 dollars to spend on flea drops for my 2 cats and 3 three dogs , is there and inexpensive way to help, i know vacumning helps , but what else can i do, please help!!!

I understand where you are comming from. Special pet flea meds are usually very pricy; You can use the Dawn doap method, never bleach though. Just make sure you condition there hair/fur very well after the soap treatment.

Does it have to be dawn? Or can it be any kind of dish soap, and how often would you recomend batheing them in it to get rid of their fleas? And one more, my dog has scratched herself open at various places, could the dawn help or hurt her open scratches/cuts?
