Anal Abscess Home Remedy Comments

1 Comment for the Anal Abscess Home Remedy

I am a 27 year old woman who has regularly has cystic issues. Dermal, ovarian, behind my eye socket, the works. Surgery for all. Three years ago, almost to date, i got my first perianal abscess. Since then, every year, almost to the date every time, I have gotten another. As someone who cannot afford insurance or a $1000 trip to the emergency room every year, I wouldn't want to go back a ain this year when my abscess start again on Monday. Not to mention the pain of having it, let alone the excruciating pain I went through last time having the I&D, I was refusing to go back to a doctor. I ended up here looking for a home cure, despite seeing the many things online saying that an abscess needs to be handled by a medical professional. I saw the recipe for a home poulpice (a term I've never heard) made of equal parts coconut oil, turmeric, and baking powder along with 10-15 drops of tea tree oil.

Desperate to not go back to a doctor, I started applying the paste within a layer of gauze while I slept from Monday to Wednesday night, along with hot Epsom baths, I tried. It felt worse, like the mix wasn't working... come Thursday morning I was in horrible pain and went to an urgent care center.

When the doctor came in, I was in tears afraid of having another painful I&D, she went to look and see, and immediately mentioned that it looked as if it would pop on its own. I was ecstatic. She prescribed my augmentin for 10 days and after hearing of the poulpice I'd neen using, as as she thinks that it was working because after 4 days, it should have been ripe. She sent me home and said to come back if it got worse.

That night, I applied the same mixture, woke up to pee, in terrible pain (to where just sitting on the toilet had me in tears), removed the poulpice and went back to sleep with a maxipad on. When I woke up in the morning, I sat up with almost no pain. The abscess had drained on its own while I slept.

I'm not saying to ignore medical attention, especially since something home treated can end up worse, however for those who have done this numerous times, gone through so much pain from reoccurring abscesses, the recipe recommended further back, it worked for me and couldn't be more appreciative.

Though it's drained mostly, I am still applying the poulpice at night, and we'll as applying hot compresses so help. I also take a hot sitz bath (2 cup Epsom salt in hot water) after every bowel movement, when I can.

The burn described really wasn't anything compared to the abscess pain as described. That did scare me a bit, but it wasn't the pain I thought it to be.

The original recipe I saw was 3 tablespoons coconut oil, 2 tablespoons turmeric powder, 2 tablespoons baking POWDER (not soda) and 10-15 drops of tea tree oil. I never used that much, as it was unnecessary for one night and the remaining paste would dry and drain literally EVERYTHING. I just made a small batch every night of equal parts and wrapped it in a single layer of gauze, almost like a taco. I put it directly against the abscess with extra gauze padding outside to keep in, and then put in a heavy duty maxipad, just in case, and left in while I slept.

It got so much worse before it was better. Again, I will say don't avoid medical attention, even I paid to see a doctor, but it worked for me. I hope this helps everyone else too!

I have one for the first time ever. I don’t have insurance so was looking at other options.
