The best home remedy for your tooth pain is determined by the type of pain you are having. What works for an exposed nerve may not work for an abscess, for example. Keep that in mind when you are reading remedies!

For an exposed nerve (lost filling, broken tooth, etc.) the garlic remedy works. Here's how:

Mix together 1 TBS garlic salt, 1/4 tsp. table salt, and 1/4 tsp. black pepper. Add just enough warm water to make a thick paste. Wet a cotton ball with warm water, squeeze out excess water, then spoon a small amount of the paste onto one side of the cotton ball. Place cotton in your mouth over the tooth that is causing the problem.

Do NOT swallow your saliva. Keep a paper towel handy and let the saliva drip into it while you keep the cotton in place for at least 5 minutes. You will begin to feel a mild to moderate burning sensation after a minute or two. That's normal. You may be tempted to pull out the cotton too soon, so watch the clock to be sure you keep the cotton in place for (at least)the full 5 minutes.

Remove the cotton and gently rinse your mouth when WARM water to remove the nasty taste.

You'll notice that your pain is gone or nearly gone after you rinse. When the pain begins to return, repeat the process until you can see a dentist.

In between cotton ball treatments, keep a hot towel* pressed against the side of your face. (*Microwave a damp towel then place it in a plastic bag wrapped in a thin cloth)

Alternatives:
-Add baking soda to your mixture.
-Use apple cider vinegar instead of water to make paste.
-If you just can't stand the cotton ball method, use the garlic/salt/pepper mixture in a cup of warm water and gently swish it in your mouth until pain is relieved.

Thank you so much. My pain has been terrible all week and nothing helps for long. Also i cant afford to spend so much on medication and orajel. If i hadnt already used up the whole tube, I'd throw it in the garbage! I discovered last night that rinsing over and over with salt water was the only thing truly helping. But tonight! The whole left side of my face started to throbe so bad... Trust me I was praying! I even squirted half a tube of polysporn all over my gums hoping to numb them... That was Not a good idea. Once i got that out of me and used the last of the orajel i was beside myself with pain. I didnt want to use the salt water rinse and wash it all away! finally i googled excruciating toothpain and saw your post and all these other wonderful people. I used garlic powder, salt and pepper in a warm rinse and put a warm cloth on my face. I feel so much better i cant even say Thank you enough. I dont know why i resisted the simple, proven salt water in the first place over store bought junk but the garlic helped an incredible amount. So far i havent had to Constantly rinse. I may even be able to rest for a short while!! But im gonna have another little rinse first! Lol! Thank you again for taking the time to help others with whT you know is Crushingly painful.
