Cold Sores Home Remedy Comments

I recently started using EcoSmart organic insect repellent to dry out cold sores. It's non-toxic and made from all natural ingredients. It has rubbing alcohol in it along with cinnamon, rosemary and lemongrass which seem to be good for cold sores. I apply it to the area right when I start to feel a tingle and it generally stops the cold sore from forming. If one does form, I will spray this on a tissue or cotton ball and hold it on the cold sore for as long as I can, until it's all dried up. This stuff is super drying, so once the cold sore is dried up I use Vaseline, Neosporin or Herpecin L to soften and heal. When I don't have a cold sore, I use Herpecin L or Vaseline to keep my lips as hydrated as possible.

I also tend to take Lysine supplements as a preventative measure during times that typical trigger cold sores or from the time I get a cold sore until it has healed.

With all of the remedies above, and cutting out chocolate for the most part, my cold sore outbreaks are now only once a year, if that.
