Like so many women on here I am so thankful I found this site--what a relief to know I wasn't alone and see all the options I could try! After 3 rounds of Metro Gel and one round of oral antibiotics I had NO RELIEF. I was fed up with my doctor telling me BV isn't something to be worried about! I have been married for 11 years and aside from 4 or 5 easily treated yeast infections over the years I had never dealt with anything like this! My worst symptoms were itching and inflammation. I did not have a strong odor, but the Dr. confirmed it was BV. After antibiotics I tried many of the remedies and supplements on here. Some helped a little but did not cure me (garlic, probiotics inserted vaginally, Vit D, Vit C, multi vitamins...). Finally I found what's working for me. I will update if the BV comes back but after treatment, so far so good!
If you have access to very good quality essential oils, then please try this!

INFO: I recommend DoTerra oils (because that's what I used and I can't say if other oils are the same) The suggested oils for BV are Rosemary and Cinnamon. In addition Melaleuca (aka Tea Tree oil)and Lavender can help immensely with the itching and irritation. With that said, I had to wait a while to get the recommended oils and ended up using Oregano (always recommended for infections) instead and that worked for me.
OK here is the step by step of what I did:
1.Basic changes that are going to be life long: Cutting back on sugar (I'm not too self controlled in this dept but getting rid of BV is very motivating!)Added a multivitamin and good probiotic (Ultimate Flora 30billion) every day. No more soap for washing down there. Just rinsing with water! Lots of water with lemon.
2. 'coconut tampons' I froze organic, extra virgin coconut oil in those water bottle ice cube trays (they are the size of a tampon) added a drop each of melaleuca, lavender, and oregano oil (inserted these at bedtime for 5 days and wore a pad). This is very soothing and since I did it at night, it wasn't very messy. When I first woke up some drained into the pad, but after getting ready for the morning I was able to take it off and just wear my cotton undies alone for the day. (You smell great down there all day!)
3. This is what I think was key to really killing the infection: Lemon, Melaleuca, and Oregano Oil: 1-2 drops each in a veggie capsule 3x day for 10 days. I felt well by day 3.
4. I was able to be intimate with my husband by day 5 after months of abstaining. I did feel a bit irritated externally afterwards and (after a shower)just put a quarter size drop of coconut oil in my palm with a drop each of melaleuca, lavender and Oregano oil and applied externally-- instant soothing!

That's it. If I begin to feel symptoms return or very irritated after sex, I will probably pop in a 'coconut tampon' for the night. If that doesn't do it, I will do another round of oral oils and experiment with rosemary or cinnamon oils in my coconut tampons.

I am praying this helps someone and I am sure that the LORD led me to this resource! If you are discouraged: remember there are lots of different, natural things you can try and you are not alone in this struggle!

Can you update your results please ?

I am glad to run across this thread. Finally, a different approach to kicking BV's butt. I have to warn you all though. Tea tree oil (melaleuca) is poisonous--very toxic to the liver. You should never use it internally! I implore you not to. Essential oils diluted with a carrier, applied to the skin are absorbed into the blood within minutes of application. Coconut oil molecules easily penetrate skin and membrane barriers. So, it is the perfect carrier for essential oils. Always research and use oils wisely.

I too suffer from BV and will try this, but will only apply diluted tea tree oil to the outside of my vagina.

I would love to hear back from someone who has tried this method and it worked.

I, too, have made "coconut tampons," but for yeast infections. I also used tea tree and lavender, and ironically, it worked for yeast, which is essentially the polar opposite of BV. I suppose the oils have a balancing effect, returning the vagina to its correct pH. Anyway, I wanted to add that I use Palmarosa when the beginning signs of a UTI appear, and always have instant relief. I tried the Palmarosa for a recent bout of BV and it worked very quickly. I've found that putting a blob of carrier oil in my palm with a single drop of Palmarosa and then just applying by hand does the trick.

Hello! I am so desperate for a cure and so happy to find this post. Can someone please give me some more info on the capsules? I am swallowing or inserting? And can i use concentrated essential oils added to coconut oil? THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)

thank you very much. seriously. since i had my girls i have been battling a vaginal odor that i cannot handle. everything checks out ok but i know something is wrong. i had retained placentas with each child. the odor is gone for only one week out of the month. no itching, no irritation. def more noticeable after intercourse. i am going to try this and follow up on this post and let you know how it works. thanks again

After years of battling chronic vaginal bacterial and yeast infections I tried a coconut oil infused with the melaleuca and oregano doterra essential oils. I took 1/2 cup coconut oil and 10 drops melaleuca and 10 drops oregano and mixed it in a small glass jar. I used an applicator from a metro gel pack (metro gel helped with symptoms but the infection would always come back) filled it to the top. Used it every night for 5 nights. It’s been 8 weeks and no more itching, burning or discomfort!

THANK YOU! to whomever posted this and commented on this! After having a period (I use a diva cup for periods and wear L. brand cotton pads as a back up), I had a serious itch, skin dryness, and irritation. I didn't do anything differently than I usually do. I took a finger sized glob of coconut oil, 1 or 2 drops of lavender, and 1 drop of tea tree oil mixed up in the palm of my hand and apply this by hand to my vaginal area ! I haven't been itching at all in the last 2 days. I did this before bed and slept with no panties. As far as showering I just let water run there and took a clean wash cloth with warm water and wiped the area clean. No soap or body washes at all (which is pretty much what I already do). I have no insurance and have had repeated cases of yeast infections and BV in the past, so this has helped TREMENDOUSLY!!

I didn’t think tea tree was safe to consume internally?
