18 Comments for the Head Lice Home Remedy

We tried all the OTC products on my daughter's hair and only killed about 1/2 of them. The nits were a nightmare to try to remove, her hair went down below her waist, I was at my wits end. I have found the end all be all cure, 'hair straightener'. Used it all over her head, took about 20 minutes. The lice, the babies and the nits all died on contact and even let go and released from her hairs. We ran the comb thru her hair again and nasty critters were all gone. We repeated it the next day and the day after that. By that third day, no lice or nits at all. It's been 3 weeks, no reinfestation, no chemicals, no greasy oily mayonnaise to try to wash out, just clean, dry hair.

What was the 'hair straightner' that you used?

hot iron hair straighter, like a curling iron only it straightens hair, not curls it. the heat kills them all.

Really it works? But u still got to treat the house right? I hope it does...too expensive any other way!

Great Idea....My daughter's head has been itchy and she started getting red bumps along the back of her hair line. This kind of stuff freaks me out. I ran right out and bought the expensive treatment. Her hair is down to the middle of her back so it is sooo time consuming. I am going to try the hair straightener tomorrow for any that I might have missed. Thanks for the idea!!!

Thank u so much its been the 4 th treatment we done and bomm again with lice! My daughter hair is just above her butt I'm gonna try this and pray like hell that it works. Plus she dirty blond so its hard to see all the eggs thank u so much!!

I've been wondering about using extreme heat! I thought about using the blow dryer on Hot, but that'd be tough on my daughter's scalp, & not nearly the 'killing heat' of a straightener. I will definitely try this. Thanks!!

so you used a hair straightener? and it killed them all??? and after you used it you comb her hair??

We have battled head lice with my girls many times throughout the years and I had tried every treatment available but I never thought about using their flat iron, but it makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for sharing this.

So let me get this straight (no pun intended)- you straighten the hair then comb it out. With a nit comb? Do u still wash with special shampoo and comb out again the wet hair? This seems genius!

After reading this I tried it last night because my daughter complained about itching. Sure enough she had the nasty little critters!!! It did work!!!! I'm going to do it for the next 2-3 days just to be in the safe side. THANK YOU for that inexpensive great idea!!!
