I have been suffering from HSV for 3 years now. Reading some of the posts about the first OB brings back awful memories, but guys the pain does get better. Other OBs will not be as severe and painful. Just get through this first one.

I have tried acyclovir and valacyclovir. Acyclovir did nothing and valacyclovir helped a little. It decreased my outbreaks to about 1 every other month. Prior to that they were back to back.

I recently stopped taking valacyclovir because I felt that it is not very effective. Not quite worth the price and taking the pills day in and day out. I was diagnosed with depression 1 year ago, so the pills are just adding up. I'm in my 20's and I feel like a grandmother with all of these prescriptions on my nightstand.

I want to try some of the home remedies I've seen on this site. I have only tried the Epsom salt bath. It is a great temporary relief of the itching and pain, but it doesn't necessarily make the sores go away any faster. I take 1-2 baths per day and soak for at least an hour. Very soothing, but time consuming.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I am not a fan of putting anything on the sores (they are normally on my anus) but if I need to I can try. I'd like to find more preventative remedies. Anything suggestions would be helpful.

I've had the symptoms for a few years, went straight to the clinic, they spread it and didn't take any samples of it or give me a blood test for it, yes the UK's NHS does not help, too expensive apparently for the blood test, I'm not worth it. Bad enough knowing I caught this half way through a 10 year relationship, don't know how, I didn't sleep with anybody else, my partner does not have it, thought it was my psoriasis at first, but the pain was nothing I could have imagined, kept me up at night burning and itching. I tried all sorts at first, perfume, salts...made it worse.

Finally found some good quality tea tree oil and it was a god send (i must admit, some tea tree oils do not work, you just have to find one that gives the fresh tingle feeling, and sting when applied to delicate area's, 100% natural and strong, even if it says do not put neat on skin, do it)anyway this was enough for a while but they kept coming back, one on another every other week it was horrible so I took action, heres what I have done so far....

Cut down on all sugars especially refined sugars...

Cut down on wheat...

Cut out processed food, preservatives, e-numbers, anything unnatural in food, sweeteners, flavor enhancers, everything, gone...

I love coffee, but keep it to one in a morning and thats it...

I love chocolate, now I only have it once a month if that...

Avoid nuts...

If you can't cut these out or have eaten too much and fear the worse will happen, eat plenty of natural yogurt...

Get some quality organic coconut oil to eat, I get pukka, I have at least 1 teaspoon of this a day....

Get some black seed oil, I mix it with honey because it tastes so foul, I have 2 teaspoons of this a day....

Get some peppermint tea...its not the best tasting thing in the world but it certainly helps me, I have one cup of this a day...

Keep clean everyday, apply tea tree oil if you know your not getting any ^ that night as a prevention, use a hair dryer to dry yourself off, sleep with no underwear at night....

And don't stress yourself, if you do feel stressed get some chamomile tea...it does help...

I also exercise and dance alot...it helps me

This has worked for me...I missed a few days, ate some sweets and started getting a sore, I started taking my black seed oil, coconut oil and peppermint tea straight away, I have not applied any tea tree oil yet because even though its sore and red at the moment no blister has appeared so I am just waiting to see if this remedy is enough alone and it appears to be doing the trick so far.

Its just another obstacle in life, it could always be worse, AIDs and HIV are most definitely worse than this, and now that we have this we are more susceptible to catching those two, so this should be a wake up call to keeping your self healthy and wise, choose partners more carefully, use protection, if are scared you might pass this on, smother your bits in Vaseline or coconut oil, it creates a barrier between you and your partner of which nothing should pass. Eat healthy, its imperative, stay positive and laugh it off, no body is perfect, its a skin disorder at the end of the day and your still able to have a healthy sex life trust me I still do.

Although I haven't had the difficulty of telling a new partner this is one frightening scenario for me, so kudos to you people who have had the courage to tell the truth.

Best wishes to you all and keep strong and positive :)

Peroxide for cleansing pour it on works better an then white vinegar it may sting but this shrinks it until its gone..cornstarch for drying in case you sweat its best to keep it dry. I tried it all this was the best an fastest way to get rid of the sores. Never double dip or reuse towels an wash clothes. Hot compress first then use these household remedies repeat repeat until u barely notice an the best part no scabs!
