Can some people be more susceptible to lice than other people? We have 8 people in the house and 3 of us can't seem to get rid of them. Each time I think we have, we start to itch again. The same 3 of us.
We first tried the over the counter harsh kind. Then we tried Lice Freeeee. Then we tried olive oil overnight. Then we tried mixing tea tree and neem oil in our shampoo and leaving it for 20-30 minutes. We washed all of our bedding, etc.

Today we tried mixing Dawn, Vinegar, and Tea Tree Oil. We will see if it works. I am going to use it daily for a week or two. I might also sleep in mayonnaise a couple of nights. Next up is Cetaphil and a hair dryer.

I am pregnant with my 7th child. I don't want to keep doing this!!

Try some coconut oil shampoo with a peppermint conditioner. For some reason my kids never ever got lice and this is the shampoo and conditioner they used. Maybe it scared them away. If you can't find a coconut shampoo, add some coconut oil to your shampoo same with the conditioner. Before washing your hair use some of the conditioner in your hair then comb it through to remove any lice with the comb. Do this everyday until the problem has gone.

Blow dry your scalp as hot as you can stand it, flat iron your hair, add tea tree oil to leave in conditioner. Alternate the iron and blow dryer every other day or every day. The heat will fry them! Tea tree will kill them or at least repel.

People with longer hair tend to get it easier than others. Rinse your hair in vinager over a sink and let it sit for at least a half hour and then wash it out. I went through it a lot when I was a kid and after a while my mom learned this trick. I never had lice again. The vinager loosens the nits and the smell of the vinager repeals the live ones. Make sure that you are cleaning your soft surfaces too (beds, sheets, couches, stuffys, etc).

P.S. People who wash their hair daily are more likely to get it as well. Lice love clean dry hair. When the hair is oily the nits and lice have a harder time holding onto the hair.

I know the box says only 10 minutes, but I grew up getting the stuff everyother week and now have an extreme discomfort to them, so I leave the Nix on for an hour. I saturate my hair-sometimes using 2 boxes depending on my hair length at the time, then wrap my head in a plastic shopping bag or shower cap. I leave it in for an hour, then rinse it and wash with normal shampoo and add conditioner after. This not only kills the live bugs, but it completely eats the nits and eggs. If you find a bug at all, it will be dead. Leaving it in for only the 10 minutes it recommends, hardly ever stunns the bugs let alone kill them.

I covered my daughters head with Vasaline. Put a shower cap on her head for several hours. You could see the lice coming out. It took forever to get the vasaline out, but she was bug free.
