I've read about all kinds of suggestions to stop the pain, but so far, this has worked the best. Put 4 tablespoons of salt into a wash cloth, and tie closed. Wet the outside of the cloth with about 1 tablespoon of water, and put it into the microwave for about a minute. Put the salt pouch on your ear, covering the opening to your ear canal. But BE VERY CAREFUL!! The first time I did this, I used an old cloth. I reheated it once it cooled off, and put it back on my ear. The old cloth was actually smouldering and I didn't notice. I pulled it off my ear just before it caught fire. So it works, just BE SMARTER than I was!!!!

I have a really nasty infection and then pain is way beyond anything I have ever felt or could cope with. It's 2 am and I have maxed out on Codeine, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. Got antibiotics and drops from Emergency surgery earlier but am desperate for relief. I tried this salt remedy. Put salt in bowl and microwaved for a few minutes. Then tipped it into a muslin cloth (thankful to QVC and Liz Earle for endless supply of cloths with cleanser) and lay my worst ear on top of it on my pillow. IT'S WORKING! I don't mind if it isn't constant relief, as long as it works long enough for me to relax and sleep a little bit. Thanks so much for this remedy ladies. It is very appreciated by me at least xxx
