I think oil pulling using sesame oil is definitely one of the best methods..at least that's what best worked out in my case.
For those of you who don't know how exactly this is done, here goes the explanation.
-Take a tablespoon or two (don't fill your entire mouth!!!) of sesame oil in your mouth.
-Gargle it thoroughly in the entire mouth for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you cover every part of your mouth as you 'swish and swirl' the oil.
-Don't just keep the oil without gargling. Keep gargling throughout the process(you may rest for a few seconds in case your jaws become tired, though!). But make sure you don't let the oil go down your throat.
-As you gargle, you will gradually notice that the oil becomes thinner and less viscous.
-After gargling, spit it out into the flush, and if you have done it right, you will notice that the oil has become least viscous and is whitish in color.
-Wash your mouth thoroughly well with warm (NOT HOT) water.

Do this every day and you will definitely notice the difference! But what you need most for this method is CONSISTENCY AND PATIENCE.
In addition to getting whiter teeth, this method also has many health benefits, if done in the right way. The best time to do it is early in the morning, after brushing, when you're still on an empty stomach. If done so, it pulls out much of the toxins in your body. For those of who who cannot spare extra time for this in the morning, you could just do it while you shower. This is undoubtedly one of the most effective, safest and inexpensive methods of teeth whitening!!

Oil pulling is known for drawing infections out of your teeth and mouth as well as helping with loose teeth. I think a better term for the method is 'swishing' instead of 'gargling'.

It gets thinner and whiter because of 15 to 20 minutes of spit production! This seems so gross.

Swishing oil in your mouth does not pull toxins out of your body. you dingdong!

I'm not keeping any oil in my mouth for 20 minutes. This seems beyond disgusting.

This is a joke, right!! How ridiculous.

I believe it's an 'ayurveda' technique, not effective for bleaching but it's very good to restore the natural color and health of teeth, detox the sinus and after the treatment you get a smart result.

Oil pulling is said to be a powerful means of maintaining good health as well as an effective cure for a variety of ills. This is an ancient technique, first described in 5,000-year-old Ayurvedic texts. The practice is simple. Soon after waking, before eating or brushing your teeth, swish your mouth with a spoonful of high quality oil in order to “pull” bacteria, parasites and other toxins from your teeth and mucus membranes. Swish the oil vigorously, pulling “through” the teeth, and side to side for 15-20 minutes. Deepak Chopra promotes the practice in his 2001 book, Perfect Health.

We have cured abscesses at home by oil pulling with coconut oil. It is gross, but it works.
