Use the clove oil, it works! I have had at least 5 dry sockets, this clove oil is fantastic, and u can get it without a precripton. The dentist wants u to think that so u will keep coming in for packing, and being charged. When i got it from walgreens , it was behind the counter, just had to ask the pharmacist for it.
It works wonders!! Just soak a small bit of gauze or cotton ball with a couple drops and pack it in the socket.

Thanks for all your words of 'wisdom' (lol).

Having popped alot of pain killers today I searched through the web working out why I'm in so much pain. Having had 6 teeth extracted (4 wisdom and 2 lower molars) I realise that I am suffering from Dry Sockets. On your advice I'm going to try the Clove Oil. I've just tried the asprin/salt mixture and it's helping but not enough.

People talk about 'packing' the hole. How do you do this exactly, and can you still eat (soft) foods with the packing in?
Thanks

Andy

Although i used to heal OK i now seem to get a dry socket with every extraction. First it is important to clean out the socket and remove any food debris etc. I do this by using an ordinary hypodermic syringe and needle (carefully). Fill the needle with a warm saline solution or an oral anticeptic mouthwash and irrigate the socket (over a sink) by squirting a full syringe quite hard into the socket (or get someone to do it for you). You will probably get a foul taste as the crap comes out. Do this until it is clean.

Soak a small ball of cotton wool in clove oil and pop it into the socket for 24 hrs. Remove the dressing (i use a pair of pointed tweezers) and leave the socket open. Before eating or drinking i put a small ball of cotton wool in my mouth and moisen it with saliva then i push the ball into the socket with my tongue. After eating rinse out the mouth well with an antisceptic mouthwash and remove the packing with the tweezers. This keeps the socket clean and allows it to heal from within naturally. If any pain re-occurs repeat the irrigation and clove oil until healed.

i have a dry socket and some packing soaked in clove oil was put in. the taste is almost unbearable, does anyone know if there is some food or anything edible that can cut the taste of the clove?

I have the perfect solution for the smokers out there with dry socket; try smoking clove cigarettes - it's amazing. just kidding. Seriously, I've been in pain for one week, a day and fourteen hours and haven't had any relief until I tried the oil of clove. Wow, it's unreal how much better my mouth feels now. I found it at my local drug store for around $12.00. Thanks to whoever it was that suggested that - you're my hero.

Thanks sooooo much. I was hurtin' really bad on the weekend from a dry socket. The clove oil worked almost instantly. Man, that stuff tastes nasty! Better than pain though.

FOR EVERYONE ELSE HERE LOOKING FOR ANSWERS TO HELP WITH DRY SOCKET...

COVE OIL WORKS!!! i just went to my local GNC store. It cost me about 6.00 for a 1 oz bottle. its expensive but it works.

I just put about 6 drops of COVE OIL on a q tip and dapped it into the socket and around the gum. The pain left almost immediately. Ive been dealing with pain now for the past 6 days and couldnt sleep at night even after taking 4 motrin ever 3 hours and was also on percocet and vicodin. But nothing would touch the pain. GO GET SOME COVE OIL AND DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR!!! Good luck everyone.

i meant to say CLOVE OIL instead of COVE.

Applying aspirin directly into the hole left by the extraction site can cause 'aspirin burn'. I definitely would NOT recommend doing this. If you want further information look up 'aspirin burn' on the internet and I'm sure you can find pictures and information
