I have Chronic Migraines and have had them for a few years. I've been on most migraine meds (Maxalt, Immetrex and Treximet), none of them help. As weird as it sounds some relief I get is washing my hair in cold water and then lay upside down on the couch or bed. Also, ice water (I normally let the water freeze just enough to break it and it be icy) down your spine.

The reason why the cold works is because it reduces blood flow/ swelling. Migraines occur when the blood vessels in the brain swell... i.e. reducing the swelling reduces the migraine. I keep cold gel packs in my freezer and when I start getting a migraine I drink something with caffine (to get the blood moving faster) and put a gel pack on the back of my head. The gel pack has the same effect as what you do, just without getting wet.

Hi, I'm 37 years old and have suffered with migraines for 19 years. When I was reading your comment, it made me laugh. I just did that today, because I'm at this moment suffering from bad migraine. It does help, but next time I'm going to stay in longer. Its still giving me a run for my remedies......
