I don't think anything is a substitute for the attention of a dentist, although I have a severe dental phobia. But I'll share this...

Over a week ago I developed a severe toothache that could have been an abscess. My entire jaw hurt, to the point where my eyes felt like they were crossing. Couldn't sleep at all. Tried cloves, hydrogen peroxide, Orajel (which only numbed the pain for a couple hours), warm salt water. Eventually tried rinsing with wild honey. I know, it seems crazy, but honey is anti-bacterial. I took two mouth-fulls, swished, swallowed. Not ten minutes later the pain subsided, no sensitivity AT ALL, swelling went down, and now, several days later, not a symptom has returned. I am usually a skeptic about home remedies. But all I can say is that for a $7 bottle of raw, wild honey, I feel great.

Heat feels good yes but what you are doing I'm the long run will hurt more . Heat draws the infections into your jaw bone and if that happens you will have to have some jaw bone cut out .

It didn't take the pain away completely for me, but it did get me relaxed enough to sleep which got my mind off the pain.

Crazy because my boyfriend nose was stopped up and he put the Vicks on his nostrils. Meanwhile I thought in my head like maybe it will soothe my toothache...I applied it on my jaw and seems to be working great!!!! What a coincidence that I decided to google it because he thought I was insane...but wah lah...I found this!!!!

I've put it direct on my tooth, after all its got similar qualities to the clove oil (which tastes more disgusting and makes me feel sick) I think its the combination of the menthol, camphor and eucalyptus in it that works.

Another thing I've done is tried rubbing garlic puree on the actual tooth and into the gum, as it contains garlic clove and salt and then putting the vicks on the my cheek, That way the antibacterial properties of the garlic and salt is also working. I also was taking turmeric & black pepper capsules with a small chunk of solid coconut oil several times a day at the time as anti-inflammatory (had a swollen leg from a previous allergic reaction to Ibuprofen in a muscle rub),

The vicks does tend to make my eye water and had to keep it closed for a while while but then that does go off and so does the pain. The garlic, salt and the turmeric and coconut oil all have anti-bacterial properties which helped relive the underlying inflammation and infection. (i continued taking them even when the vicks had eased the pain. Didn't even need any antibiotics the infection cleared up then of course so did the pain.
