Ms. Kat

I have been a daycare teacher for many years and can share a guarenteed solution to treating diaper rash. My parents ask my secret and here it is:

First of all - diaper rash is mainly caused by a lack of hygene but can also be caused by acid in the diet, prescription medicine, yeast infection, or uti. If my solution doesn't work consider that it can be caused by one of these.

Change diaper at least every two hours. When you do WASH the affected area with soap and water and pat dry. This is essential! Let it air dry a few minutes.

Apply a liberal amount of diaper rash ointment to the area. It's important that it's gel and not cream. The cream kind, like Desitin, burns when applied and your poor baby is hurting enough as it is. I also sprinkle some baby powder for good measure though it isn't neccessary.

Within a day the diaper rash will be much improved.

I dont know who would allow you to care for their baby, but clearly you dont know a thing about diaper rash. Parents feel awful enough having to return to work & be away from their families when there children are still so young & for you to make such a condescending statement that diaper rash is caused by poor hygiene is just ridiculous. The worst thing for diaper rash is to put soap on it & to bathe the child frequently. Mothers come on this board to look for advice & help each other, not to be told that they exercise poor hygiene with their children. Canestin anti fungal cream combined with being bare bummed works wonders for diaper rash :)

I agree with all the other posts. Diaper rash is not mainly caused by a lack of hygiene! Every baby gets diaper rash one time or another. My little girl has severe diarrhea and that has caused her to have severe diaper rash. I am a very clean person and clean her very good. I don't agree with this cure at all. This is why I will not put my daughter in a daycare.

Not judging

Mrs. Kat. Althought poor hygiene can cause diaper rash, it is not the main cause. But I think that if this is working for u, props. All kids are different. I do the same with my son and it works great. So, keep it up. As for all the rest of u, shame on you for judging someone simply for doing things differently. Unless someone is using hot sauce for a rash, chill out.

RN AT HOMETOWN PEDIATRICS

MS KAT,
I work in a pediatric office, and we have mothers coming in at least once a week for horrible diaper rashes.. We see babies everyday but at least ONCE a week we have babies with really bad rashes.. YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER USE SOAP ON A BABYS BOTTOM WHEN THERE IS A RASH!! NEVER!! BECAUSE ITS JUST GOING TO IRRITATE IT MORE AND BURN..!! Also you should NEVER USE BABY POWDER!! BABY POWDER HOLDS IN MOISTURE AND MAKES THE RASH WORSE!! So for you to be saying that washing a baby with soap and water then applying baby powder, you obviously have no idea what your talking about.!!! TO EVERYONE THAT READS THIS REMEDY THAT THIS LADY(MS KAT-the daycare teacher) PUT ON HERE, DO NOT EVER USE THIS REMEDY UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR BABYS RASH TO GET WORSE!!!!
