I didn't have any apple cider vinegar to dilute, so I swished & gargled with full strength white. Nasty- yes, but one of the worst cases my Dr. had seen in yrs is almost clear in less than 24 hrs from only 2 applications. Beats the week or 2 of prescriptions, baking soda & etc.

I got my first case of oral thrush after getting a steroid shot for a sinus infection and using Flonase for a week. I'm not sure which one is the culprit but I suspect the Flonase, which I ceased using immediately. Anyhow, I cured mine in a day or two with dramatic results in about 18 hours. I gargled three times using three drops of tea tree oil in a cup of warm water. Then I did the same with three drops of grapefruit seed extract. Then I did the same with hydrogen peroxide (1/3 ratio with water). Following that I gargled three times with a 1/2 tsp of sea salt in a cup of warm water. I finsihed up by garling a couple of minutes with organic coconut oil (it melts in your mouth). By morning many of the white patches were gone. By afternoon, there were just a few left. All were gone the next day.

I found this thread about an hour and a half ago. I've had a moderate case of oral thrush for the last two and a half weeks, caused by three and a half weeks on antibiotics. I've never dealt with yeast before and was so frustrated. The Nystatin seemed to work a bit, then the thrush came back with a vengeance. I was almost in tears tonight, looking to try anything that might help. The candida diet thing is torture for someone with as poor of a diet as I have, not to mention my allergies to many fruits and veggies.

After reading the comments here, I decided to try swishing with undiluted apple cider vinegar. My eyes watered from trying not to throw up - I'm not a vinegar fan in any way, shape, or form. It stung a bit, but I managed to keep it in my mouth for 5 minutes. My tongue still looked awful, but I knew I should brush my teeth to try to minimize the damage from the vinegar, and I would try scrubbing off some of the white coating.

You guys, I can not stop staring at my tongue in the mirror. After one treatment, it was about 70% gone. I just did a second 5 minute treatment, and swallowed this time because I know the thrush goes back too far on my tongue for gargling to reach it. Anyway, it burned all the way down, but after brushing again, the thrush is about 90% GONE. I will do this a couple more times tomorrow. Thank you so much for posting about your experiences. I am flabbergasted to have found a remedy that worked so quickly and I wish I'd tried it sooner. I also wish I had taken before and after pics!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

UPDATE:

The morning after my first post, which was posted night before last, I swished with undiluted vinegar one more time. The inside of my lips began to turn white, and my whole mouth felt like it had been scalded. The feeling in my mouth ranged from numb and swollen (lips, edges of tongue) to very sore (middle of tongue, roof of mouth).

This morning, the pain and/or numbness has decreased some, but I've definitely damaged my mouth. The white coating on my tongue has not come back completely, but it has definitely begun to return. My tongue is still very sore, and I've since read of people doing damage to their esophagus by drinking undiluted vinegar (I swallowed two of the three times that I swished).

Well, that's what I get for going for the most extreme home remedy I could find. My quest to kick the thrush completely continues, and I urge caution to those who are as foolish as I was.

Update #2

After letting my tongue and mouth recover from the vinegar for a couple of days, I found another suggested remedy on this site.

1/2 teaspoon milk of magnesia
1/2 teaspoon liquid benadryl
Swish and gargle for 2 minutes, then spit.
Twice a day until symptoms have been gone for 48 hours.

This worked as quickly as the vinegar without doing damage to my mouth. The first time I did it, my mouth and tongue were numb and tingly for about an hour. This happened less with each dose, and the white thrush came off in patchers when I brushed my teeth. Best of all, while the thrush came back after the vinegar, several days after finishing with the MoM/Benadryl rinse, it hasn't returned!! You can swallow the rinse if you need to treat farther down your throat, but be aware that MoM is a laxative, and Benadryl makes some people really drowsy (although, this is a very small dose of either medicine). Good luck!

Suffering from it from three days. I thought that it just because of poor oral health, but it started hurting so much & pain is now on peak..tried some painkiller gell, but its have a side effect of eradicating senstivity in ur tongue completely if applied more than 5-6 times and the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor will usually take more than 10days appox to cure it. But these anti-biotics are harmful lowering ur health more than it was earlier
I am unable to relive pain and concentrate on my college schedule.
I have read all ur comments, collecting every possible detail to avoid any internal injury, and excited to use White (or apple) Vinegar or Mom & liquid benadryl soon enough to get my smile back again. :)
Also as a Medium class Indian, our parents believe to give treatment by the doctor rather than trusting Internet or their children. Sad though! :(
[ Read upcomments for more accurate details, its just my experience. :p ]

SickOfThisThrush

I've been dealing with oral thrush for 2 months due to taking tetracycline for bronchitis. My Doctor prescribed nystatin 4 times and never worked. I'm pretty much on my own now due to he wants to send me to a E.N.T specialist, I see that as unnecessary since I was on tetracycline and albuterol inhaler and that's what caused this! I just swished Braggs organic apple cider vinegar undiluted and my tongue is now even whiter! Did this happen to anyone else? I tried brushing it off with my toothbrush and it didn't budge :( I'm worried I made it worse. Any advice is very much appreciated :)
