To reduce a fever, soak ankle high socks in very cold water. Wring out excess and put on feet. Cover with wool socks.
Change when socks dry (this varies depending on fever temperature), usually about 1/2 hour.
Combined with rest and clear fluids, this usually keeps the fever at a very low grade. Just warm enough to still be able to fight whatever infection brought the fever on in the first place.
