Aviod Ibuprofen during your period. It causes you to bleed over-accessively. Tylenol works just as well for me.

I agree with most of you, I was instructed to take IBU to reduce my heavy flow and it cuts my menstrual days too, 800 every 4 hours works great.

Im so happy i read all your comments because now i can have a fun night out with my love. Thanks everyone for the ibuprofen info.

Women body are not the same, and react to different pain reliever. I never tried ibuprofen with my cycle always took Tylenol, or naproxen, but this time I had neither so I took ibuprofen heavy flow never happened before, so no will not use it during my cycle

Everyone is different. I am 38 and a mother of 2. My obgyn told me to take ibuprofen to help the pain and to reduce the flow a year after my daughter was born. My daughter is now 16 and it still works great for me.

We can all read the ingredient list on each individual medication, and some of what everyone is saying is probably to some degree true. But the most true statement I hear here is that everybody's body acts differently towards different products. That's just a fact of life. I can certainly attest to that. For me personally, when I take aspirin it increases the flow, which is normal. When I take ibuprofen, it does nothing either way. But ibuprofen is never enough to even though a headache or pain of mine. But if I take something like a Goody's powder, which is acetaminophen, and caffeine, it slows my flow significantly. I would always be careful taking high doses of ibuprofen consistently, however, since it is much harder on your liver. One side note completely off topic here, never ever give ibuprofen to your dog. The key point is we all have different makeup, different chemistry, and we all react differently to things. There's no one size fits all. I can drink something with heavy caffeine and it actually makes me sleepy, which while it's not the normal reaction, is not that unheard of, just less common. Variety is the spice of life.

To correct a typo up there, I meant to say ibuprofen doesn't even touch a headache or pain of mine. I was using the speech to text feature.

I think every person is different. What may work for one,may not work for the next person. My niece is 13 and she told me she bleeds heavy when taking motrin. I bleed heavy anyway,so I can't really say motrin makes me bleed heavier. Everyone's body react differently to certain meds. But I just hope you as individuals find a solution that works for you.

Omg the crazy things I've read... if your not a Dr, or pharmacist please stop giving medication advice. As much as you want to help a person your not helping by giving WRONG information. I work in the pharmacy for 6 yrs I am now a pharmacy intern.

Ibuprofen is a NSAID (anti-inflammatory) which basically means it helps with pain and inflammation. There is a hormone in your body called prostaglandin, this hormone is what tells your muscles to contract. So when taken ibuprofen, your actually tricking your brain into saying there is no pain there no inflammation. Which stops the body from producing the hormone (prostaglandin), so now your uterus is no longer contracting. So yes ibuprofen can help decrease or stop menstrual bleeding. But please do not just grab ibuprofen and start taking it consistently. Here is where you MD/ObGYN comes into play everyone can not take the same dosage it all depends on hight, weight, and medical history. You can only take a certain amount for a certain amount of days, ibuprofen is harsh on your stomach lining so it must always be taken with food, and taken as directed. If not taken as directed you can get stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, abdominal pain, diarrhea, SOB (shortness of breath)etc.

This is to the person with VWD, I really hope you are not taking ibuprofen. That can cause internal bleeding, believe me, I know! My husband almost died from bleeding last year, his regular doctor told him to take it, his hematologist threw a fit! DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN WITH VWD!

When I take ibuprofen, it makes me bleed excessively! Especially because it is a blood thinner. Cramps go away, but I bleed too much and it's no fun.
