When you have mucus/phlegm in the throat due to post nasal drip, get some Silver Biotics (it is the only colloidal silver that really works for me) and make a nasal pray with this solution.

Don't add anything, just spray your nose 3 times daily, 2 spray in each nostril. It will fix the post nasal drip and allow the mucus to get out your nose.

THEN move on to the mucus and phlegm in the throat, here is an INSTANT remedy that will work 100%, all the time and it took me a minute to find this one.

1 - Get some Apple Cider Vinegar and mix it with 1/3 Apple Cider Vinegar, 2/3 cold water

2 - Do a gargle then bend over and stay in this position for as long as you can (minimum 3 minutes). Try to bend over and hold your feet.

3 - While bending, press your tongue against the roof of your mouth every 2 to 3 seconds.

What will happen is that:

a) The mucus/phlegm will attached itself to the mixture as Apple Cider Vinegar acts like a sponge.

b) The gravity will let the mucus/phlegm in your throat to fall in your mouth.

You will feel it falling inside your mouth and when you do, please do not stop because there are usually a lot more coming up.

So continue and each treatment should be at least 3 good gargles. You can do that as often as you like until the mucus/phlegm is completely removed. You can end your session by sucking on honey or drops to soothe your throat.

And VOILA!

Wow! Came across this tip and although unpleasant, it most definitely works. I had gotten so used to the constant congestion, post nasal drip and coughing up of phlegm that I forgot how wonderful it feels to not have that present. I've been drinking ACV off and on for years, but never used it in this fashion. I will make this a regular part of my routine now that I see it works so well. Thanks again for this great info!

Use distilled water! Tap water or well water can be dangerous entering your sinus cavities. Brain eating amoeba! Chances are low, but not worth the risk.

It's funny, I was just doing something similar to exorcise all the evil from my bronchial tubes when I stumbled upon this post. You can actually do this without the ACV. You can use salt water, or even go without anything for that matter. What I do is put my head upside down into my bathroom sink, then let gravity do its magic while I cough everything out. I also do the trick with the tongue to draw out all the phlegm from the back of the throat. I'm also lucky that my half bath is small enough and has a sort of shelf near the sink, so I get into a plank position with my feet propped on the shelf and my elbows/arms on the sink. My feet are elevated so I get the benefit of doing my head into the sink to cough/expel out all the gunk. After coughing as much as I can out, I blow out from my nostrils to get the mucous that pooled back into my sinuses due to the gravity. Rinse and repeat.

It was so gross tonight... The whole week I was popping lozenges with the exception of the past couple of days. To my surprise, I had been able to expel old phlegm which was the color of those lozenges! Yucky!

There is also a toilet right next to the sink, so I could also stand on that while bending over into the sink as well. I suggest trying this if one of your bathrooms happen to have one of these configurations.

What is the brown stuff that comes up after gargling?

This is an old thread but I am SO GLAD I found it!

I've have an upper respiratory infection and bad cough all week. That started with yucky post nasal drip that came and went the whole time. Been taking mucinex and a lot of other natural remedies to try to kick it. Am feeling much better today BUT the post nasal drip problem would not let up. To the point of feeling like a rock was stuck in my throat, and I couldn't sleep (it's currently 3:30am) it was giving me anxiety because you start thinking there's something growing in your throat when it's that bad.

So I decided to give this a try...oh and let me say none of the mucous I blow or spit has been green or anything this whole time. SO, I do this AVC thing, at first I was very skeptical but willing to try anything and I've also been using a neti pot.

After gargling then holding my head upside down for 3 minutes 5 times, I was blowing my nose and tons of green junk came out. Sorry for the tmi but that's what this thread is about so I can't worry.

I'm still trying to get it all out but I feel like a lifetime of garbage is clogged up in my throat and nasal passages!

I highly recommend this method to dissolve it and start fresh.

Found this old post today.... get some nasty chest congestion a couple of times a winter, with general chest tightness and the nastiness in the back of the throat :(

IT DOES WORK!!!!

I agree with what someone said earlier, it's hard to keep you you touché moving once you mouth fills with saliva. I did 3x and probably averaged a minute to a minute and a half, but I was amazed at phlegm I spit out. It wasn't overwhelming, but luckily I found this on the first days of this particular onset (and I wasn't able to hack up anything prior) and my chest feels immediately better!

Also I didn't find the taste so bad (I am an acv drinker though) just awkwardly hanging out upside down was interesting.
