There are many causes for kidney infections. Water does not clear up a real kidney infection. Just because you may have a little pain does not mean you have a kidney infection. I woke up one day very out of it blacking out high fever pain all over. When we got to the er they said I was just a few hours from renal failure. I dont think water would havce cleared that up. I had no prior symptoms before that day which is very common. But drinking water is still very good all around. Try Arbonne's daily detox tea to prevent. It naturally cleanses your colon and kidneys.

The reason why people are looking for non-drug cures for kidney infections/UTI's is because some people get a lot of UTI's and/or kidney infections. When a person takes a lot of antibiotics to treat these infections, pretty soon, the infections develop resistance to the antibiotics and they have to take stronger antibiotics to kill the same infection. There are other cures for UTI's and Kidney Infection other than antibiotics. But antibiotics are very useful when you are in a life or death situation and don't have time to wait for natural cures.

'Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice, taking sulpher and even beer will help flush the kidneys.'

No, Beer will not flush the kidneys. All the others may work, but you should avoid alcohol while you have a UTI or kidney infection.
For fast relief while having a UTI, you should take Plenty of water since water is the first medicine. The water not only washes away the bacteria, but also dilutes the concentrated urine and bacterial colonies, so that the symptom will disappear at the earliest.
Barley water and tender coconut water often.
Vitamin C and zinc for fast healing.

And you should avoid Sweets, coffee, tea, beer, alcohol and cold beverages
Sexual activity
Controlling urine for a long time

Antibiotics are the suggested way to go because Doctors look at the infection, and ALL possible ways to kill the infection, while saving you. There isn't just one antibiotic out there... there are many... so there are several different ways to kill the infection; the doctor needs to find the best one, the one that will kill the least good bacteria. But it is guaranteed to kill the infection if taken in proper prescribed dosage for the proper prescribed amount of time. Not just any antibiotic will work. Yes, there are plenty of ways other than antibiotics that will kill the infection, but if some of you are right, then we will have to find the ones that work for us individually, AND we can't know what it is for sure unless we go see a doctor about it to find out what it is... in which case, he may prescribe you anti-biotics then. If you don't see a doc about it, it may get worse. Be careful when 'home-diagnosing' yourself. Yes, also, you should drink cranberry juice if you believe you have a UTI or kidney infection, because it will help. But if symptoms last more than 2 days, you should go see a doctor; be sure to tell him the procedures you've taken already, and he will let you know if you actually should or should not do that, so next time you will remember the symptoms and the steps to take.

My boyfriend drank nothing but mountain dew for a long time and now he has a kidney infection. He has no health insurance so we can't take him to a doctor with out it costing a fortune. He has had it for almost a week and its not getting much better. He has been drinking cranberry juice this whole time. What should we do?

I'm allergic to most antibiotics (and hate taking them- I don't think they should be handed out like candy) so I like to see if I can treat myself before I have to go the medical route. Thanks for all the tips!

Cola does not cause kidney infections...bacteria does.

We depend on Antibiotics to much. And those that have allergies....life is hard! I know!...preventative is best! and alternatives have to be given more consideration!

This comment needs to be expunged from this home remedies site. If you follow this persons advice you will most likely die. Worst advice ever and very ignorant.

The bacteria needs to be killed off or it will spread. Water isnt going to do anything when your kidneys fail.

As much as i dont like doctors i would rather take antibiotics then follow this 'only water' advice.
