FLEAS: I have had a terrible time getting rid of fleas till now. Borax laundry soap. Vacuum your carpet really good. Then sprinkle the Borax over your carpet. Use a broom and work it down into the fibers of your carpet really good. Don't vacuum for a week unless you have to. The fleas will eat the Borax. It will cause them to dehydrate and die. Repeat the process every week or so for a month. It really works, it's cheap and it is safe to use if you have small children.

Yes it does work on wood floors. if you have any cracks in the floor work it down into them and around your base boards. I have put it in a spray bottle. but I only used the spray in my basement. I used a few teaspoons and diluted it in hot water. don't let the borax sit in the bottle after your done the borax will crystalise and you can't get it out of the bottle. I have also found that the borax works great on black ants nad lady bugs i sprinkled it in my doorways of my front door and on the inside and outside of my window seals. spiders don't care for it either.hope you have good results.

Can you use the Borax on your pets? You know rub it in their fur down to the skin without it causing problems for the pets? Thanks.

I would call your vet and ask. It could irritate your animals skin. and make them itch more. I just keep all my animal bedding washed in laundry soap and add a half a cup of borax to the wash. I also wash my sheets and conforters the same way. If you really want to put it on your pet ask the vet about adding a small amount to your pets shampoo.hope it helps!

i started to use thr borax about a month ago and most if not all of the fleas are gone. i didn't know it dehydrated them, some one else told me that the powder was too fine so they suffocated. either way it has worked for my family and my cat doesn't weeze any more.

That is what our groomer said to do and she said it sucks the moisture from the eggs fleas lay and kills them..

Borax doesn't dehydrate an adult flea, nor does it make the flea sterile or choke the flea out because it's a fine dust.
Borax works by killing fleas when they are in the larva/pupa and egg stage.
Since an adult only lives for a few weeks, having Borax in the carpet disables the adult flea's offspring from hatching and living through the pupa or larva stage. Thus, breaking the life cycle.
If an animal comes in the house with adult fleas on it, those fleas can survive in the carpet. But they won't be able to produce surviving offspring due to the chemical in Borax that dries out the larvae.

Don't put borax on an animal that grooms itself (i.e., a cat) because it could be toxic to ingest. Dogs might be okay; ask the vet.

Thanks for the Borax info...

If you take oil of wintergreen and dab on cotton balls; place strategically around the house (corners of room, closets, etc)it will help clear your house of fleas. They can't stand the smell.

borax DOES kill adult fleas because i have hardwood floors and i COVERED it in borax (wore a mask) and 2 days later i'm sitting at my computer and not ONE FLEA on my legs and TONS of dead flea bodies in the borax on the floor. i'm going to leave it down for a week maybe more. i also have carpeted floors in the basement and i covered it with borax, i'm also going to spread it on my couch and chairs but i am going to spread salt on my matress top and borax on the box spring and cover all my furniture with white sheets and leave the borax for a week or more. i'm then going to clean the bathroom of all the borax and put the cats in there for a while and spread their bedroom and everything in it with salt and borax and watch all those little f'ers die. they nearly ruined my life (job, sleep -- i was sleeping in my car because of it) but the borax is totally working. my house looks like a napalm bomb hit it, but at least i'm gaining ground. it's the only thing that has done the trick even after i spent $350 on an exterminator (worked for ONE DAY!!!) i'm so happy, thank you to everyone who let me know about 20 mule team YEAH!!!. -ps, if you want to find out about safety etc (it's actually less toxic than table salt) then go to borax.com just be careful not to inhale it ( i wore a mask) turn off all your fans and wash your hands when touching anything and do NOT put it on your cats or dogs or let them walk on it until you have finished the application and vacuumed it up. op, i just looked down at my sock covered legs again and NO FLEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!! and NO SLEEPING IN MY CAR TONITE!!!!!!!!! good luck people and godspeed
