After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!

* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)

Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).

You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).

Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.

Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)

Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.

A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).

THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!

If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.

What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.

Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!

Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.

I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.

So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!

I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.

Doesnt make your nails fall off. It didnt mine anyhow : )

I've had toenail fungus on just both of my big toes since I was 16. I used to polish the nails to keep them covered, but pretty soon it became evident that there was a problem with my nails. Since then, I have not worn sandals. It's been 12 years now. I've tried everything to no avail. I finally asked my doctor for help and he gave me some pills, and ask that I go to his office every 3 months to get my liver checked. I took the meds for about a week, and gave them up because they would make me feel dizzy. Finally, yesterday (7/8/11) I became frustrated that I could not wear sandals comfortably, especially with the hot California weather. I began to look for home remedies, and came across this. I am very encouraged and hopeful that this can be finally it! I went out to CVS and got my decolorized iodine. I will start it today! Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone! Hopefully, I too, can add to the experiences. Sandals, here I come!

To the UK guy ONLY!

looks like Europe has some issues with legalizing or enforcing iodine table salt regulation and other iodine products. Also EU banned iodine sales for drinking water two years ago.

Although not a simple solution, if you have the 2% iodine solution you can boil the liquid down 90% to a 10% volume then add rubbing alcohol with one part your boiled iodine solution to two parts rubbing alcohol.

The rubbing alchol should be a 70% or more solution.

That will give you a tincture solution with less than 8% iodine (but hopefully much greater than 2%).

I was recently diagonsed with toenail fungus.

About a year ago I cut the toenail a little too short (trauma) and it started to bleed. It took a long time to heal but shortly after I started noticed the top of the nail getting a white appareance. I didn’t know what it was so I ignored it. I finally went to the doctor. At first he started me on Penlac laquer. Which didn’t help but instead it started spreading to other toes what a real waste of money. After a few weeks of dealing with an incompentent doctor he finally gave me a prescription for terbinafine. HUGE mistake!! I got every side effect and then some. Bad stomach, pain around my collar bone, tired, fatigued, short tempered, lost taste buds (tongue felt like it was on fire), pain in right side of my rib case, nausea, dark yellow urine, blurring vision, etc but what finally did it was waking up with my eye swollen like I had been punched in the eye. Some of these side effects are still with me but they are getting better. I don’t know if it gave me liver damage yet but when I called the doctor the idiot tells me ‘it’s not the medicine but stop taking it anyway. There is no cure and you should live with it. The chances the medicine was going to cure you anyway were only 85%’. This guy graduated from a top med school!!

I started with Mark’s suggestion on 7/7/11. So far I have seen some promising improvements more then any of the other expense options. The only difference for me is that I push the cuticles back to give the solution a better chance of entering the nail bed.

For the grammar nazi…stay of this site some of us don’t’ care about your OCD!

I have had this condition since wearing shoes without socks while bartending in humid conditions-
started using decolorized iodine last sat- ***warning- do not try to squeeze a few drops from cvs bottle downward- it exploded and i have yellow stain everywhere in bathroom***
both feet affected but left big toe is worst-
since starting this past week i removed this fungal nail easily with clippers and it smelled like the iodine- still hoping for better results, but optimistic-
anyone else have fungal nails plus super dry skin on soles of feet? im in good healthy shape but feet are the one source of issues- ive tried scraping it off but feel that infection is one and the same

I learned about Mark's iodine treatment here and bought a bottle at local CVS in mid June 2011. Had to ask the pharmacist and he could only sell me one bottle. I ordered 2 more online at CVS: cost per bottle is around $6. Began using it twice a day with a dropper for about a month now. Edges of nails turned black where the iodine got to the fungus. Not sure if it is working under the nail yet. Left big toenail looks a bit healthier at the base. It takes a long time for the nails to grow, so I'll have to keep this up until it has all gone away. BTW, any peroxide with this stuff will stain red and remain for a few days! Good luck everyone! Anxious to hear your results and I will post my at least once per month.

For the one with dry feet, soak your feet with apple cider vinager it will leave your feet soft like a baby. I was trying to get rid of my toe nail fungus, it didn't get rid of the fungus but my feet did get soft.
Hope it works for you!

Mark, How did you come up with this idea?

Thanks Mark.. But do I need to clip the nail or just leave it long?

I found this all very interesting. I am going to go get a bottle myself. My husband has awful feet, and has given up. If it works for me, he will give it a try. I just started having problems a year or so ago. Can't wait to see what it does for the big toe. That one is starting to hurt. Thanks Mark
