After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!

TREATMENT BENEFITS
* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)

WHAT WORKED
Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).

WHAT YOU NEED - GENERALLY
You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).

WHY DECOLORIZED IODINE WORKS
Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.

Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)

WHERE TO GET IT
Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.

TREATMENT
A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).

THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!

If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.

MY STORY
What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.

Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!

Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.

INCOURAGEMENT
I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.

So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!

I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.

IF IT WORKS FOR YOU PLEASE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WILL!!

(IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IS NOT INTRESTED IN HELPING.)

Hello,
Did you file your nails before puting on the iodine. I really want to get rid of this ugly infection that i had for about 15 years.
Thanks in advance:)

Mark, Is this a tincture of iodine? Rite-Aid carries decolorized iodine in a tincture. Not sure if this is what I need. I'm excited to try this!!

Just started my first application today. Snowboarding and sports has completely ruined the health of my right foot. My dealings with toenail fungus over the years has taught me to remain cautiously optimistic with any treatment but I am definitely hoping for the best. thanks for the tips Mark. Will post along the way.

I am really interested in the response to still being able to using nail polish while treating. I am willing to apply-remove, apply-remove... Actually willing to do (almost) anything.

I purchased the Decolorized Iodine at Walmart for less than $3 and started the application process last night. I am also interested in knowing whether I can paint my toenail to hide it from the world (it is summer!). Currently, I've been putting a bandaid around the toe.

Thanks Mark,

Erika

Whatever you do, do NOT combine decolorized iodine and hydrogen peroxide on your skin!!!! I had been using the iodine for nail fungus and then got a cuticle cut. I decided to use the peroxide. It has created some kind of chemical burn...very red and swollen and acts like a burn. Will take several days to heal and is somewhat painful.

Otherwise the decolorized iodine seems to be doing the trick with my nail fungus.

Decolorized Iodine will not go through nail polish. I recommend wearing shoes (and no polish) for the first four days of treatment. After that use nail polish but remove and dry before a treatment and reapply the polish (once a week, once a month, etc.)

Also there is no need to file the nail to prime the iodine - it will absorb quickly.

And Decolorized Iodine is a TYPE of tincture of iodine (tincture just means it's in a solution of 40%+ alcohol. For the CVS and other bottles this is in tiny print on the front). So the Rite-Aid decolorized iodine is right on. To be super sure the active ingredient iodine should be about 7%. There are some staining iodine solutions (NOT decolorized) out there that are 2%.

Happy Summer!

Mark.

I have been using this about 3 days now. At first I felt tingling and now I feel a bit of a burn but it goes away fairly quickly. Does this mean it is getting down into the infection and hopefully attacking it? Thanks so much for your post...

Stacy

Just wanted to update since I started using the iodine.

I'm on my 4th day & the skin under the worst toenail already looks better. I can't believe it. Even the cuticle looks better. I'm very excited & can't wait to have normal nails again. It's been a long long time.

A ray of hope! I have been dealin with this problem for many years, I played soccer and road biked all my life and the type of shoes you wear for those activities did not help my toe nail fungus, I am on my way to get the decolorized iodine and will update as I go! Thanks!
