After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!

* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)

Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).

You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).

Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.

Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)

Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.

A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).

THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!

If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.

What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.

Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!

Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.

I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.

So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!

I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.

Thanks for telling us about the iodine cure. I can hardly wait to try it. I got rid of my athletes foot now I'm ready for healthy looking toenails too.

My concern is knowing about any dangers associated with the frequent use of iodine. especially since it is related to the thyroid's functioning. It's worth mentioning also that some people are allergic to iodine. I wonder if this might be people who are also allergic to seafood?

BTW your writing was intelligent thoughtful and well prepared. the misspelling was merely a distraction.

To the 'get a life' commenters be advised intelligent people generally don't mind a correction here or there, no one is perfect.

As a webmaster, I can attest to a general hatred of typos. If you read something once and there are no grammatical errors, you're editing job was adequate. On the other hand, if you read something a hundred times and it still contains errors, then your editing job was inadequate. I bust a gut to eliminate errors on my own websites (they are a distraction to some, and, therefore, amount to poor marketing), and I very much appreciate them being called to my attention. Other webmasters to whom I have pointed out typos, especially on commercial sites greatly appreciate being able to correct the typos, and therefore improve their sites. One guy, thanking me profusely, said nobody else had noticed the error in 7 years! Nobody I know who is trying to sell a product likes to appear 'ignernt'. I suspect it's all in the attitude with which the correcting is offered: helpful, or 'smart aleck'. I suspect that in this situation, nobody was aware that Mark apparently can't correct typos, because the site editors have control. Having said all that, I am thrilled to have run across your post, Mark. Thanks! I will buy some decolored iodine forthwith. I plan to combine that with 2-a-day hydrogen peroxide soakings. Maybe alternate the soakings between hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. Lastly, you're dead on about the allopathic medical community not giving a damn. Somewhere I read that one guy, after trying everything else, went to a competent alternative medicine practitioner and got his diet corrected so as to fight yeast infections, which I read toenail fungus basically is. Thanks to your post, I am very optimistic about beating this scummy toenail fungus! Thanks again! I'll definitely let you know if the alternative methods work for me.

grammar police

I'm no webmaster...but I have a helpful hint to the one who is. It is more pleasing to the eye to leave 2 spaces after a period. This was (once upon a time) a generally accepted typing technique. It might no longer be taught, or necessary, but it does create a paragraph that is easier to read.

I found the product at our local Wal-Mart for $2.97 for a small bottle. There must have been 10 bottles or more on the shelf.

I hope this works. I've had it about 4-5 years. This year it moved to my other foot. I've tried tea tree oil, walnut salve, vinegar helps the skin but not the nail. The medicine is 'hard' on the liver; my clinic wanted a liver test before considering prescribing it. So, I don't want to take that stuff.

This condition is in our family and i have had two toes on both feet affected by this and at times it can be painful. The big toes are the worst and even a little dog walking across hurts like hell! i have been using this decolorized iodine for about a month now and i have to say this is the first thing that has worked for me!!!! It really works and stay on the schedule about 3 times a day.
Thanks for the post and it is much appreciated!

OH! This is wonderful news!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'm going to try it as soon as I can get to CVS! It is such an embarrassing problem that I avoid getting pedicures or letting my husband rub my feet. I've been missing out on these two wonderful things! I hope it works for me :)

I have been trying a combination of peroxide and rubbing alcohol as a soak for 20 minutes, twice a day, for about 8 days. My nail might be looking a little better, but my skin is peeling off and drying out terribly. I am going to try the iodine fix instead. Thanks!

ok today is May 31st Memorial Day started to use the iodine on my infected nail. Hey thanks I am really feeling the tingling..... I will keep you updated mid June.

Mark, I just ran out to CVS and bought 3 bottles! I can't wait to try this remedy. My husband of 20 years has never seen my feet nor have I worn sandals in all these years. I pray this really works.
