135 Comments for the Toenail Fungus Home Remedy

After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!

* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)

Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).

You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).

Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.

Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)

Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.

A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).

THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!

If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.

What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.

Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!

Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.

I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.

So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!

I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.

I read all the entries here, and thought well the nail fungal stuff that I am using is not working so I am going to try the decolorized iodine, so off to CVS I went. They were out of it, so I went to a Rite Aide figuring since it was close there might be a chance. They were out of it, but this time I asked if they had any out back and I was told I needed to speak to the people in the pharmacy. So I did and the look I got was condemning, as the lady told me that they had some but it was out-dated and they don't sell it b/c people use it to make meth!!!! So I went back to CVS figuring maybe they also had it in the pharmacy area and they said they do not sell it any longer due to the meth problem. I thought I would share this with people w/o knowledge of things they use to make meth and save them a condemning look when they ask for it! Well back to the research!

Hi Mark again,

If you having an issue finding Decolorized Iodine just go to CVS's web site and order it.

Put Decolorized Iodine in the search - it should pop right up.

Medical & pharmacy people can be such jerks!

I've seen diabetics get treated like drug criminals because they ask for needles! To me a stupid pharmacist is a scary as meth.

Iodine has been regulated for a long time - just like fertilizer. Feritlizer can be made into military grade bombs but you can still buy it at the garden center (but farmers have to have a license).

Iodine can also be made into military grade bombs and meth but rest assured iodine is used for many things and you can still buy it over the counter in the amounts you need.

Hi Fungus Community,

I've been dealing with Toenail Fungus for many years. At first I ignored it and just kept my nails polished with a dark colour. Then one day my large toenail fell off in the shower. It grossed me right out. I've tried many rememdies with no luck. But I also did not know that it could takes months before I saw any type of change, so I would always give up. Then one day I bought a computer and started looking things up and found out it could take up to a year. So I've tried everything and so far there are only two things that have worked. EVERYTHING THAT MARK HAS SAID AND A PRODUCT CALLED 'ANTI FUNGAL TINCTURE' made by a company called FOOTLOGIX LABORATORIES. It costs $20.00 CAD and gave me a great start on the fight to a cure, but the cost was too much for me because I was laid off from a job. So after bottle number 2 and 4 months later I took up all the tips on this website and started to do what Mark said. I now have cleared up toenails and am no longer embarrassed to have my socks off. I still put colorless iodine on my toenails as an aftershower ritual, but if I forget, it's no big deal.
Thanks Mark for the tips.

Forever Grateful....

I will start my treatment tomorrow. I cant wait I have lived with this for so long and have tried so many different things. This has taken over several of my toes. I cant remember the last time I wore sandels..

Just you need to remove nail polish before using this treatment? I too, hide my ugly nails under a dark color of nail polish and really don't want to remove it now that it's flip-flop season! Thank you so much for sharing this info. I'm so inspired to start this treatment!

Thank you Mark and everyone for these encouraging comments. I've had the fungus for at least five years on both big toes. Every summer I apply fake nails to all my toes which look great but probably prolong the problem. I have been doing a cider vinegar/peroxide mixture soak for about 2 months everyday. I see minimal results, but then I just heard that you are not supposed to mix the two, but alternate soaking in each of them. Instead, after reading this, I am buying the decolorized iodine TODAY, provided I can find it, and I will be sure to let the pharmacist know I am not making meth! OMG. Thanks again, so very much. Very encouraging.

Thanks so much for this remedy Mark. One thing folks, no need to ask the pharmacy personnel for it, it is in the first aid aisle (CVS) where the band-aids, hyrogen peroxide, alohol, etc. are. Is is near the tea tree oil and other antiseptics. Thanks and good luck ya'll.

Oops, sorry for the misspellings, police nazis ;), typing too fast.

I would like to thank you for posting this remedy.
I started using the iodine 3 weeks ago and I'm seeing great results so far...
I encourage anyone suffering from nail fungus to give this remedy a try.

I have been suffering from toe nail fungus for about 4 years now. It started on my big toe, & has moved on to 2 others. I have tried vicks, listerine, clorox, hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, & recently gentian violet. It is so embarassing, I have not worn flip-flops in over 2 years. I am willing to try this so much, I ordered my bottle from Cant wait to try! I hope this helps myself, & others! Thank you for posting your story :)
