After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!

* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)

Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).

You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).

Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.

Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)

Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.

A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).

THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!

If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.

What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.

Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!

Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.

I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.

So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!

I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.

I've had the toe fungus 32 years and have just dealt with it. I found this site in January and thought i would give it a try. I also have the 'moccasin' feet for years as Julie described which can be very painful in the winter time when the air is much drier. All 10 nails are effected and its not a pretty sight. I've use wire cutters to clip off parts of the nail that are dead just to get the thickness of the nail down so that it wont hurt when i wear shoes. At times the nail would be close to a 1/4 inch thick on my big toes. Its not something i like to show off so i wear socks 24/7. I doubt anyone could have it worse than me.
I started applying 2 treatments on Jan 22, 2012.... once in the morning before work and once in the evening after I shower. I've used a cotton swab to apply it evenly on my foot and nail. After 3 months (Late April) which would be approximately 180 treatments, the heels of my feet felt like baby skin... so now i just do my feet once a week for maintenance. 18 weeks into the treatment my toenails are showing the new nail finally. Every nail is responding to the treatment. I've had no side effects, no skin reactions, nothing from doing 2 treatments a day. I figure at the rate my nails are growing, the new nail should be complete in around 16-20 months. That seems like a long time... but its worth it... 32 years of pure hell will finally be over.

I got back on the decolorized iodine in May 2012 (see my earlier comment), after a few months with vinegar - alternating with hydrogen peroxide. The fungus got worse, so I returned to the decolorized iodine. Last month, I went to a podiatrist and explained what I was doing. He said to continue with the iodine because it looked like it was working; the nails were growing out healthy and the fungus was decreasing. My nails grow slowly so this will take several more months. I suggest if people see progress, don't give up and don't change remedies. Mark has the right solution!

Those of us who have suffered from this know how traumatizing this condition is. I've looked back on that day, many years ago, when I first noticed a white film partially covering one of my big toenails. I grabbed a file and scraped it off and thought nothing of it. I'd have launched into a panic had I known how--not only my nails--but what my entire body would look like and what I'd be dealing with 20 years down the line.

It has been nothing short of a nightmare. Consider yourself fortunate if you only have fungi toenails to worry about. I am thankful that, as bad as my case is, I can still keep this a secret as it just happens to be affecting areas of my body concealed by clothing but I'm sick of being thankful that it isn't worse and am ready to finally be fungal infection-free.

It all started back in my mid-teens when I'd visit the local public pool during the hot summers. I never bothered wearing flip flops while not in the pool and I'm certain that's how I contracted the fungal infection as it appeared soon after. Not only do I have to live with what are probably the most grotesque looking feet in the world, I've inadvertently passed this curse to most members of my family. They don't really know where it originated--the guilt I feel is tremendous since those most affected lament their inability to join family gatherings at my brother's pool, wear open-toed shoes, and the general grossness of it all. It is bad enough for us dudes, I can only imagine how bad it is for females who, more often than men, desire to expose their feet, get pedicures, or accentuate outfits with open-toed shoes.

My family hasn't seen my bare feet since I was 15 years old. I am 34 now. My feet are so disgusting, it has even affected my intimate life. Where being the dweeb who keeps his socks on was once an option I'd have no choice but to take (I hate that), the spread of the infection to my groin and buttocks, and more recently, my back and legs, has placed an indefinite 'HOLD' on anything that might possibly involve any state of undress. It has been this way for the last 6 years. The body rashes have left permanent scarring (called hyper-pigmentation, where the site of the rash remains darker in color than that of the rest of your skin). The itch can get so intense, I've ripped at my skin scratching to the point of bleeding. My poor feet are ravaged by this beyond comprehension. 'Repellent' only begins to scratch the surface of what is my reality. Needless to say, I am completely miserable.

I've recently have had to turn down someone I did not want to turn down. I can't even describe the agony of having to go through that and avoid someone you like...over fungus.

The point in divulging this personal information is to illustrate the inherently repulsive nature of this condition. It's the type of thing that nobody can stomach and it will quickly place you on a level of 'gross' reserved for the worst of the worst. What kills me is it also unfairly suggests awful things about your own personal values of cleanliness and hygiene. The immediate repulsiveness of it can't be bargained with, softened, nor can you prepare someone for it so that their reaction isn't as bad if you didn't. This is why only one set of eyes have seen my bare feet in the last 20 years. I'd never subject anyone to such horrors.

It's high time I work toward not subjecting myself to the same horrors. I can't say I've 'tried everything' as I've long have had to accept there's only so much that could be done short of chopping your feet off and wearing prosthetic ones. This is why the remedy outlined here seems like a fantasy, or a sick joke.

Regardless, it has managed to provoke some hope in me and I've just ordered two bottles of decolorized iodine from There are tons of similar remedies out there with some very good track records of success but what makes this one stand apart is it simply makes sense and seems to address the root problem head on with minimal trouble. I don't know about you, but while I'm sure there are people out there who enjoy soaking their feet in vats of acid to the bone in order to achieve marginal results, I prefer something that works deeper where the immediate results equal a whole lot of dead fungi as opposed to 'nicer' looking nails. I could achieve 'nicer looking' by grabbing a chainsaw, an electric sander, and weed wacker and doing a number on my feet but I've had it with 'nicer-looking.' Especially if it takes the amount of time and effort I've spent on beautifying my diseased nails. It's time to nip this in the bud!

But first, I have tons of prep work to do, and I'm only doing it on the condition this results in a cure. I have the faith, I understand the science, hopefully now I can experience results that will ultimately make this nightmare a thing of the past. I understand exactly what I'm facing and know I must do a lot more than most considering the extent of my infection, and this only covers the nails, but the nails are the cause of all other infections and getting rid of the source is a good start.

You can count on some very fierce dedication to doing this right. I will report in a month on preliminary results.

Thank you for sharing this with us all, Mark.

Hello everyone. I've been on Mark's remedy since June of 2011. I've been suffering from the gross toenail fungus infection for about 15 years already before coming across this site with Mark's solution. Funny how when I would search the web about toenail fungus remedies the results i get all seem to be marketing websites that ultimately will lead you to the product they're selling. It was so frustrating! So when I found Mark's solution that'd not cost me a fortune and didn't sound harmful at all I thought why not give it a try. I have before tried TEA TREE OIL (didn't work) and seeing a PODIATRIST who filed my toenails and applied MYCOCIDE cream. The latter seemed to have worked for me plus the Podiatrist helped with the ingrown on both my big toenails, however, I got pregnant and was advised against use of the Mycocide cream. Surprisingly my fungus didn't act up as bad during my pregnancy but several months after giving birth I noticed the ugly discoloring coming back! Nooo!!! Anyway a year and a half into Mark's treatment I can say that it's been the BEST, CHEAPEST and EASIEST solution I've ever tried. It definitely does not cure the culprit 100% but sure made my toenails sooo much more acceptable to expose without me feeling too conscious about it. The only things I noticed are 1) the top quarter portion of my big toenails didn't attach back to the nailbed, and 2) applying nail polish on affected nails wakes the fungus like crazy! Just 2 straight weeks with polish and my big toenails are showing a lot of discoloration again - both yellowing of nail and dark/black spots on the nail bed :( So I just continue on with Mark's solution because at least it mellows down the fungus again. Sadly I guess the fungus would already be part of my life. I just don't understand why it won't go away completely. I'm still hoping for a real lasting cure to end our nightmare. Good luck to us all!

Hi Mark - i don't know if you are still around on this forum but in the hope that you are i wondered if you could help please? I'm in the UK and struggling to get decolorized iodine 7% - i have noticed a white iodine 12% on the UK ebay - do you know if it is ok to use this in the same that you have recommended for the 7% please? Thank you for your time and best wishes, Andy
