I have suffered for years and like others I have found that quinine definitely works but they stopped selling in the US and possible heart side effects. Now using Percocet and it works but wears off during the night. I have been taking Magnesium for months with no improvement. Also check any of your other medications, Certain medications that may aggravate symptoms. These medications include antinausea drugs (prochlorperazine or metoclopramide), antipsychotic drugs (haloperidol or phenothiazine derivatives), antidepressants that increase serotonin, and some cold and allergy medications-that contain sedating antihistamines. Still I am thinging like others it is tied somehow to weight and back pressure. Good Luck

I have been taking hydrocodone due to two shoulder surgerys and I am just beginning to deal with RLS, and its BS. I notice you mentioneda few medications and how they could have side effects towords RLS. Do you know if hydrocodone could have these side effects to cause the RLS?

I suffered some time ago with RLS and I did some research and found that it could be caused by low magnesium. However, my suggestion is to use the large black prunes with or without the seed, about 5 a day for one week. Hope this is helpful.

My pharmacist told me to drink tonic water cause it contains the quinine.. It use to work for me for a few months until I started a medication now there so bad that the tonic water makes some of the symptoms go away but there still there at night..

now you will be hooked on percoset,not a good thing trust me then when you don't have any your legs are worse

If it's related to weight and back issues, why have I had it since I was a small girl, and why does evey female in my family have RLS? Doesn't add up.

To the person that asked if hydrocodone caused or made RLS worse. I stumbled on hydrocodone when my wife was prescribed a cough medicine containing it. I took the hydrocodone cough syrup and it relieved the RLS, made me drowsy, and gave me my first all night sleep (six hours) in over 20 years. I used all of her cough syrup and then went to the medicine cabinet and found left over prescriptions for hydrocodone, tylenol codein, and percocet. I was able to get about 18 good nights sleep out of them. I think that any prescription narcotic pain killer is a GIFT from GOD! In any case, the prescription pain killers are all gone now, and I am back to my normal hellish nights.

By the way as the original poster mentioned STAY away from anti-histimines. I took an over the counter sleep aid that contained diphenhydramine which is sold as Benedryl and experienced a night of shear agony. I did not actually get to a sort of sleep until 5:30AM and the alarm goes off at 6:30AM.

I don't think that its so much about weight I am 5'8" and I weigh 128 lbs and suffer from rls..
