Toothpaste definitely worked!! I showered and applied my arm in hammer toothpaste which has baking soda ( I've seen people put Colgate but I don't believe it's the only brand that works apparently) overnight and the next morning it had bust open! I had been using the black salve and antibiotics prescribed for over a week and nothing happened. Toothpaste definitely will work! Good Luck!

I read the suggestions here. Some were...a bit over-complicated unnecessarily. Some were underwhelming. However, the recurring theme was black salve and heat.

Yesterday my boil was located on my lower right buttocks. It was golf ball sized, hard, hot, and EXTREMELY tender. Today it's pretty much gone.

I tried the Colgate toothpaste. I had it on for maybe 30 seconds before I was screaming in agony. I cleaned it off with a baby wipe immediately.

Instead, I cleaned the boil with betadine, applied black salve, and stuck a piece of guaze over it. I also applied heat to the area.
Within a couple hours it had opened up. The next morning when I went to the bathroom there was blood and pus everywhere. I hadn't expected such fast results. I cleaned myself up and repeated the betadine and black salve. By the end of the day, it was pretty much gone. I'm going to keep up with the routine for a few days because the directions say to do so. But I'm 90% better in under 24 hours.

i am a doctor and i have drained alot of abscesses and i know how painful it can be. a week ago i got an abscess in my perianal region. i treated it with some icthamol and antibiotic ointment but it just grew bigger. i know i had to go to the ER to get it drained. And from where its located i knew i probably needed an spinal anaesthia. i was too scared and embarresed to go. so i decided to go with some natural remedies. twice a day i had a warm bath with an antiseptic solution like Dettol. i let it soak for 15 mins. a relative recommeded fenugreek. you get the fenugreek seeds grind it to make a powder, mix it with some water to form a paste. apply it to the abscess over overnight. i made the paste and covered it with gauze and used a panty liner to stick it. the next day the abscess reduced significantly it was a size of a lime. some pus drained. i continued with the remedy. it was like a miracle.
hope this helps

First, I would like to say thank you to everyone that submitted something, especially the funny posts. These remedies helped me a lot and gave me hope when I felt helpless. I read them while in tears. Knowing that others went through this and made it through gave me hope.
Now, onward to business.
I had a MRSA staph infection a while back. Before the doctors realized this though, they gave me antibiotics to treat a regular abscess. (Trimeth Sulfa Ds) Within fifteen minutes of taking it coupled with Ibuprofen I felt relief. Aside from the drugs, I made a paste of bakings soda, 100% pure tea tree oil, and Colgate toothpaste. Before I applied this concoction, I rubbed Neosporin on the abscess. Then, I covered it with gauze. On top of this, I placed a hot and cold compress over it. It began draining within an 1 hour. I feel soooo much relief! I can finally sit on my butt with crying out from pain! Hope this helps. <3

I had in the last 10 years 4 boils...always on the same spot.
All you need is a raw potato, a pineapple, 1 or 2 lemons and lots of water.
The water you need for warm soaking...try to soak 5 or 6 times a day.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
My secret to clear skin...drink alot of water.
After soaking cut a thin slice of the potato and put it on your abscess/boil/furuncle.
keep replacing with fresh cut slice.
Eat the fruits throughout the day. The pineapple reduces inflammation and you need the vitamins.
For the pain take some ibuprofen until your skin breaks and puss drains...within a day or two.
Keep repeating for another day or two, to be sure it's all drained.
This works for me everytime! Hope it does for you too!

Thanks everyone for the remedies, I then tried my own recipe in my room, I first put tooth paste then waited for it to dry up, wiped with a cloth dipped in yeast vinegar. The boil was big but it works wonders it's no longer painful and it's becoming smaller in less than 30min

Submitted by RELIEVED I am a 25 year old Hispanic female who has had boils since I was about 17. I've had them on my face (near the ear) on my inner thighs numerous well as on the back of my neck..armpit...butt cheeks and most recent...on my back near the right shoulder and middle of back...I have tried almost everything to cure this damn boil problem and they still keep coming back...I want to share a list of must haves when fighting a boil...TRUST me this will work....

1) Hibiclens anti-bacterial soap
2) Prosone soap
3) Aleve/Ibuprofen/Tylenol (for pain)
4) Ichtammol ointment 20%
5) tumeric powder
6) Epsom salt
7) rubbing alcohol
8) muporicin ointment
9) garlic powder
10) manuka honey (whole foods)
11) Curad Silver Solution Gel
12) Smiles Prid drawing salve
13) toothpaste
14) vapor rub
15) milk thistle 1000mg tablet
16) large gauze
17) Bactrin (by RX only)
18) brown sugar
19) weed (just because)
20) patience

Step 1: take nice hot shower...stand in the steam for a while...steam opens pores and makes skin soft...while in shower use Hibiclens to wash boil with hot water...also use a small amount of the Prosone soap to wash the boils area as we'll (not too much Prosone has steroids)

When you step out of the shower do not dry boil with towel...let air dry

step 2: lots and lots of warm/hot water can add some tumeric and Epsom salt and Hibiclens to the water you use to heat up for the hot water this for at least an hour twice a day...

Step 3: So basically the following items are for bringing up a head on a boil to make it ready to self drain:
twice a day, make a paste out of these items: tumeric, vapor rub, toothpaste, manuka honey, curad silver solution gel, Ichtammol, garlic powder, brown sugar, Epsom salt, mupirocin ointment.
Mix all of those items to form a paste like substance to spread over the boil..once boil is covered apply the smiles prod drawing salve on the top of paste to act like a sealant.

Step 4: cover with loose gauze so boil can breathe.....take pain killers as desired...smoking a joint also alleviates pain from boils....

I did this two my boil on my back and I swear it popped today while at work...drove home took of shirt (it was drenched in liquid pus and blood)...had my mother put on gloves and assist me...she did not have to barely touch the boil as it was self draining...NOTE: you will need a lot of napkins/towels, etc. it will be messy and nasty! Be prepared! It flows out of your like a river! Once the blood and pus stopped I put a thick paste of the items listed above and put a gauze over pain as of right now!!! Total relief! Will keep u updated...

Btw: did not get this one cultured for Mrsa other boils did have mrsa and I was prescribed antibiotics which with no success they keep least this makes the process easier...hope I can help...

Please don't listen to the post that suggest putting toothpaste on a boil unless you only plan to put it on the boil for an hour or less. i left toothpaste w/ gauze on a boil i got on my butt cheek for almost a whole day and it burned my skin. and burned it bad! The boil did pop but i have a black burn on my cheek. please try prids the drawing salve!!! it really does work and is medicated for that type of thing.
